Dear All,
Very Strangely i came across a candidate who showed on his resume, that he has exp of SAS programmer for 3yrs, with a company called Adios, Pune. Its a fake consultancy, as per my sources.
We checked with the HR people of their client, based in Mumbai. They said they dont have any SAS programmer's Department... Phew... we were saved.
This candidate also got False documents from the clients place, which was 5yrs old, letter head(as per the HR)
How can we save ourselves from such frauds.. Reference checks have become very important ...
Infact i also came across a CV which mentions that he's working with my company, as a SAS Programmer since 2 yrs...
how can we stop this...
Please reply guys...
Lets all come together to solve this kind of frauds...

Geeta:huh:

Hi Geeta,
The industry is facing a grave situation with an alarming increase of candidates fudging resumes and faking employments. Due to increase in number of unemployed educated youth in the markets and the industry insisiting on work experience candidates are forced to lie.

Well we have also encountered similar problems, but they can be identified if the recruitment & selection process is strictly laid out. For starters, in the HR interview you can probe deeper into the company profile and colleagues working with him and insist on a office landline and official mail-Id for references.

Bakground or reference checks thru 3rd parties have become mandatory, they conduct checks on educational & family background ,Professional & Police verification & these organisations do a fairly good job and to an extent identify such fake candidatures.

Importantly even if such a candidate gets onboard, he would be in the probationary period and finally his work performance will expose him . If he is an absolute fresher and has faked his work experience the reporting manager would identify the same and you can take the appropriate action.

A fake candidate can gain entry into an organisation if the selection criterias have any loopholes but to sustain is a matter of question.

I had this idea sometime back. That is, if any job portal can come up with a strategy that a person needs to under go an official verification process before he uploads his resume, then it would be a good way to stop fake percentage.

I mean, if he is an experienced candidate, he needs to provide his official email ID which would be verified first by the recruiters.

If he is a fresher, then generally you need not look for verification.

In our organization, we follow this process.

We have an online application for the current jobs present.
A candidate has to fill in that application to apply for a Job. There we ask his official email ID as well.

So, it becomes easy for us to track if he is working with the same company or not, in the initial stage only.

But by this way also, only 50% fake can be identified as many people may not be interested to give their official email ID. But people who are genuine, they fill out the application boldly.

I have hired good number of candidates this way.I hope this solution would help....

Comments are appreciated.....:icon1:

to check the candidate is real time or not
just i ask to candidate his work mail id. and desk number.
i will send a text mail to him, and ask him to reply to that..
if i get reply, then i will check company details
i strictly fallow this way..

Karuna, you have really come out with a good idea, but again it all depends whether the candidate really wants to or can reveal his official email id.
Geninue candidates will never give second thought for it.At the same time it varies from company to company and the profile candidate is into.
For eg. if there is a traniee whoes job profile does not require seperate email id ,might not be possessing it .
For present employer reference check of an employee, wht u can really do is , find out through net or for helplines whther that company really exists, then get the contact no. try and talk to anyone from the company, if not about his performance but u will get an idea whthr the candidate is employed ther or no.
Ex-company reference check:-Follow the same procedure , but for his performance talk to HR or may be to the reporting authority.

Hey All.

Thanks for your feedback. We have been doing this - asking candidates to give their official ID's, but there are few employees who dont give it - reason being, that their emails are under scanner. Every in and out of mails recd or sent are traced. Its the same in my company too. We had faced a very big problem, as people were using net for unofficial stuff, and loads of Virus were entering into our machines. Hence we have strictly told the employees not to give their official email id's to anyone.

And, we dont give to any refernce check companies. We do the reference check from the HR desk itself. It gives the first hand information.

The reference companies, will only check the basic stuff. where most of the HR's do not elaborate more details about their x-employees.

And if the call is directly from the HR desk, the response is different.

Thats the reason i was able to catch hold of this guy. Fake documents, fake company. The reference check companies will not go to the client's details. They will only check with their direct employers - where i got a clear reference of this candidate.

So ...

Incase of freshers - we not hire any freshers though - but i would suggest to all that reference check for all the fresher should be done - by checking their Educational background. There are fake documents for MBA's , BE's, and Graduation certificates also for that matter.

Thanks to you all, for your feedbacks..

HI Geeta,
Solution for this problem is going to launch in few months. Our company is launching a website, where employee details are uploaded by the Employer but not by an employee.
It is going to work in the lines of "CIBIL". Authenticity is guaranteed as the details are submitted by Employer - For further information wait for few days, our team will be approaching every organization to give a presentation on how it works.

Hi All,

Its not a big deal. While interviewing the candidate itself, you can come to a conclusion whether the resume is fake or ...
Before interviewing the candidate the interviewer has to gothrough the profile and collect some information about the candidates company and the project, if the interviewer gets some doubt on the profile. All these information, the interviewer can collect from net or by making calls to that particular company or through any reference.

Keeping all the points in mind the interviewer should start interviewing the candidate.

You just throw questions on him related to the information which you have collected. So it gives him an impression that you are very much aware of his company.

In addition to that you can ask for his client list, to whom he is reporting to, his role on the project, project explanation, duration of the project, official id, official contact no, employee no, etc.,

By the way he responds and reacts you can take the decission.

It wont be easy if you are very new to the recruitment field, but by practice you can achieve.

Regards,
Don.
