Dear Urmila...
It is a valid interview question. U will get to know how much true the person is in his/her passion towards HR. It will help u understand their view of what HR is.
U know why I state this is important... just becos I got the following wierd answers fro this question during an interview:
a) Uhmmm... uhmm... I like HR
b) Well, HR is taking care of employees. And I always loved taking care of ppl - u know I am gud at it
c) I was not good at any specific subject and my freind told me I can do HR. Its easy
d) I dont know. I thought girls find HR job easier
e) I want to prove to the world that I can do anything.
These are answers I will never forget. I was interviewing a candidate for HR assistant job.

Hi,
urmila
I completely agree with u, I am in HR profession and I face this question every wr and i get so irritated. I am a B.Com graduate and i did specialization in HR, I have opted for HR just coz I had no other option and to be frank I don't know any thing about HR but now i really feel proud to myself saying that Iam a HR. but i give the same reply to the interview they will reject me or else up on that they'll ask hundred and one question. at the end i get a caption ki "I have no planning about my future".
I dont know why do people ask this question regularly.

Purpose of asking this question is - "we definitely do not want to hire people who have no self direction, and make choices out of what appears in fron of them"
Imagine you both have a huge team to handle.
Lets keep it this way: Its a marketing assignment. Both of you belong to competitor brands, for FMCG products.
Now you both have the top places in teh market...and all of a sudden the advertising / Brand Manager quits!
You guys have a need to hire that person imemdiately becuase you want to launch a new product and its going to be a huge competition and success is only based on the advertisements.
Now if you have 3 candidates to chose from, and one of them gives you an answer "I dont know why I took this role... I did not find anyother...." will you hire him/her?
Wont you be interested in having a member who LOVES and KNOWS what he/she is doing.? You will...
So no harm if you guys have reached this point, where you just chose to be in HR with no specific reasons. I would suggest you to learn about the field, and see what interests you. If you have no planning in life, its dangerous... its not late to start right away too!
Good luck to you guys!
