Dear Seniors,
Please let me know. One employee of our company died on 27.04.21 due to natural causes. Before his passing, he was on unpaid leave from 01.03.21 until his death. His date of exit was 27.04.21, and the cause of exit was his death. The Employee's Deposit Linked Insurance (EDLI) benefit is provided to employees who pass away while in service. Could you please clarify whether the member's spouse is eligible to claim EDLI benefits or not?
Thank you.

As mentioned in the query he continued to be an employee till death, the EDLI claim is admissible. Being on leave, of whatever nature, does not negate the liability for EDLI payment.

@Tarasammal if the UAN of the employee was submitted with NCP days in previous months ECR, then he is all eligible for EDLI claim provided his service span is 1+ years
As long as his date of exit is not mentioned in PF ECR, he is considered to be in employment and is a PF member until the date of death.
By any chance, was he covered under ESIS? If yes, did he obtain a medical certificate? For a safer side, ask the family members to obtain a medical certificate from the family doctor who was providing medical treatment. Keep it for your official records and mark him in the office muster roll as sick until 27.04.2021. There should not be any problem settling the EDLI claim.
