Hello,
As part of an employee engagement activity, the company management has suggested planning sessions for a month, ranging from 30 minutes to 1 hour, to improve employees' communication skills.
Could anyone please suggest some creative ways to conduct these sessions so that employees can enjoy them?
Please assist with suggestions.
Regards,

Hello Anagha,
You may organize a few enjoyable but educative programs for your staff, which would also be helpful in their day-to-day work. For example, some funny programs that improve their speaking, listening, non-verbal communication, interpersonal communication, etc.
1. For instance, prepare chits with questions like: What are their goals in life? What do they think about teamwork? Who inspires them? Who is their ideal leader? What is their dream vacation? and so on... Initially, they might hesitate to come forward, but later on, they will enjoy it.
2. Playing Dumb Charades will also help. Instead of typical movie names, give them some famous thoughts to act out.
3. Conduct a rapid-fire quiz about company activities, operations, history, vision, mission, etc., and gift the winners. Such an activity will ensure they are updated with past and current company affairs.
4. Start monthly/quarterly birthday celebrations with cake and snacks. Invite positive comments from team members of the birthday boy or girl.
Hope this will help you.
Best regards,

Dear Anagha,
Greetings ........
Step - 1
1. In a classroom atmosphere, gather all who are attending training (not more than 10 at a time) and tell them that this is going to be a session correcting each other mutually without making a mockery of one another. All trainees must carry a pad and a pen with them.
2. Call on a person to the podium and give him a newspaper (preferably "The Hindu") and ask him to read any article published aloud so that others could listen. Ask the rest of the class to take note of pronunciations, punctuations, proclamations, pitch, and performance of the reader.
3. The reading session should continue for 15-20 minutes, and thereafter, the other participants should be given 15-20 minutes to correct those 5 Ps of (2) above and help their friends correct themselves.
4. This process should continue each day with a new reader and the rest as the audience until all have had at least 5-7 sessions each to read and correct others.
5. Continue similar sessions for 10 other candidates in the later part of the same day.
Target training 20 persons as above in 1.5 months' time. You and your management would surely notice that the candidates have shrugged off "shyness" and are communicating a lot better.
Step - 2
1. Take these 20 candidates up to Step - 2 and start a game of "Role Play".
2. In one go, choose any 2 of them and choose a topic for them to start a discussion. For example, let one play the role of a "Sales Manager" and the other a "Manager - Logistics". While the Sales Manager wants some material to be delivered to a retailer within a given time and wants the other man to support his assignment. If the operation fails, they meet afterward. One can imagine the fireworks in the discussion.
3. Let 10 pairs practice "role-playing" on the same day and continue these sessions for 5 days.
Step - 3
1. Ask all of them to draft written correspondences of a "built-up imaginary situation" and read it in the class for others to contribute "chosen words" to make the draft more effective. All classroom participants must get a chance each day.
2. Continue such sessions for 7 days.
With the above, I am sure you would be able to produce 20 trained communicators for your company.
