What kind of letter should be given to an employee if his designation/job role is changed from sales manager to sales agent?

Sounds like a demotion. A letter addressed to the affected employee from HR Head/Manager should work. Mention the change of role responsibilities (of the new role) and expectations in the new role. Also, specify if there is any change in his designation/employee grade or band/remuneration, etc. A couple of motivating lines are suggested.
