Hi Deepti
Difference Betn HR & Corp. HR can be defined as
HR may be at plant level or may be restricted/ responsible at particular location only.
Corporate HR is the person who is working at corporate level & handling centralized HR activity.
Eg: If one company say "A" is having offices at 5 Location of india & having head office at one place say "Mumbai" so HR working at Head office are normally looking after all the core HR activities such as Manpower Planning, Policy Implementation etc. these policies are applicable at all the locations , HR at particular Location is responsible for implementation of such policies at plant level where he/ she is working.
& handle the day to day HR activities at plant level.
i hope i am able to draw picture in front of you.
regards
shreeram

Hi Deepali,
Difference in both HR lies in the level of functioning. While HR is business/plnt specific which functions at the circle level,Corporate HR works at the headquarters level. They are involved in ploicy making ,Manpower planning, budgeting, approvals etc.based on the requirements of the circle office HR.
THrough Circle HR u get exposure on implementing the policies, execution, employee relation management, whereas Corporate would help u to learn more on designing policies, interacting with different circles, understanding trends and ensuring overall welfare of the organization.

Hi,
We can divide activities of HR Functions at plant level & corporate level. At plant level skills set of HR person should be different from the corporate as at corporate level mainly coordination work and framing of policy may be recruitment can be there but at plant level Implementing of policy, various situation of employees induration lessoning with govt authority Labour and administrative laws coordination of T&D activities

[color=darkblue]Deepali, the difference between Corporate HR and HR (Unit HR or Location HR or Zonal HR or Regional HR) arises when there is more than one office for one particular company…when one company is spread over multiple locations.

Corporate HR is more into Strategies, Policies, Procedures and they take decisions, which are in the interest of people at large and affecting everyone in the organization. They are involved in aligning HR with Business and more towards overall Organization Development.

HR (Unit HR or Location HR or Zonal HR or Regional HR), other than Corporate HR are more towards implementation of those policies, and maintain HR activities at unit Level. Corporate HR is more towards "Human Resources Development" and Other HR is more towards "Human Resources Management".

Another difference is Corporate HR is at Macro Level and other HR is at Micro Level. I hope I have clarified your doubt. This difference in itself, also suggests skill sets and competencies required for both.

If you, still have any doubts we can discuss offline and you can mail me at

Hi! Sanjeev,
Are you saying corporate HR funtions are HRD funtions & HR funtions are HRM funtion is it true? then I i would say that
HRD is sub-system of HRM
corpoarate and HR both are HRM funtions

Anuj Human Resources Management and Human Resources Development are two different things and one is not a subset of another. HRD is done at Macro Level and HRM involves most of the Routine Work such as following Processes and Procedures. As the word CORPORATE HR Suggests, it implies where the company is having more than one branch or office and one of such Branch or Office is a Corporate Office, hence the term Corporate HR.

If there is a company having 25 offices in India. One of those offices will be corporate office. There will be Locational HR Manager in each of the 25 locations. There might be Zonal or Regional HR Manager taking care of 5-7 such locational Offices. Now, Corporate HR will be taking care of all the 25 locations whereas Regional HR will take care of his region and Locational HR will take care of his location.

Corporate HR will not be involved in the nitty-gritty of day-to-day "Human Resource Management". They will be taking decisions affecting all the employees across all the locations. They will be ensuring uniformity in Processes and Procedures. They will be working towards aligning HR with Business and taking care of overall Organizational Development.

I hope I have cleared your doubts.
