Hello Everyone,
My name is Shailesh Parekh, and I work in a Research Lab located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat as an HR Executive. I joined this organization as a fresher, so I have no experience in payroll, manpower planning, or any other HR functions. I am interested in developing a payroll section in our organization. Could you please advise me on how to determine the salary structure, including basics, HRA, DA, Gross Salary, Net Salary, and all other components for positions ranging from executive level to GM level?
Thanks & Regards,
Shailesh Parekh

Dear Shailes Parekh,
First of all, you need to understand the job profiles of all employees working in your organization. After that, you can provide the designation based on his/her experience and salary, and then create the department.
Once the department is created, you should have data to create the salary structure. It's important to note that the salary structure is an internal decision and may vary from industry to industry.

Please find out the minimum wages applicable to your lab. Are you inquiring about the salary structure for existing employees or for new employees? I recommend conducting a compensation survey of similar industries to gain firsthand experience. Additionally, what are the laws applicable to your lab? Considering all these factors, please proceed. Are you currently paying a consolidated salary?

Shailesh,
You cannot imagine things and go ahead as you like. First, have a frank discussion with your bosses and try to know who you are, what the aims and future plans are, how and when you are going to take off, etc. Importantly, try to obtain a complete framework, roadmap, fiscal and financial budgets, at least for the next 5 years if not for 10 years, without which your work will be meaningless. Draw appropriate charts and HR tree so that you will get a clear idea of how you can proceed. Similarly, you should gain knowledge about similar establishments existing in different parts of the country and abroad that are already running successfully. Understand future promises, growth opportunities (SWOT analysis), etc., which will help you target your goals accurately. The charts and budgeting will determine how your manpower should be aligned with the financial budget. Once your draft is ready, discuss it with the finance head before finalizing your detailed manpower planning.
