Hello All, Please help me urgently with a sample training module for the post of a technician. I have the topics to be covered in training, just failing to understand how to design a module. Thanks,,

Dear Kavita,
it appears that you have not take training on "Train The Trainer". Would you like to impart soft skills training to hard skills?
If you have training topics then how to design the module should not be a problem. On what criteria, the topics are selected? Are you clear what skills need to be developed amongst the technicians? On acquiring these skills, are you clear what needs to be increased or decreased?
Do technicians interact with the customers or end users? What kind of equipment or tools do they use on their job? There are so many questions associated with your post. Please clarify these points. Earlier I had given exhaustive reply to the subject of employee training. Click the following to refer it:

1. Talk about the Organization and the process
2. Share the agenda / Index
3. Talk about the basics
4. Prioritize the topics according to which is first required to know and so on. . .
5. Demonstrate Role plays & Examples
6. Mention glossary
7. Do's and Don't
8. Escalation Matrix
9. Any guidelines if any. . . .
go in this sequence and then u start working u will start getting ideas in between how to make the module better . . .

The post of Techician will be different in every organisation.

As none of us work for YOUR organisation, we cannot tell you what you need to teach these people. That is a function of what field your organisation is in, and what exactly you do in the business. For example, a Technician in a car manufacturing plant will be vastly different to a Technician in a soap making plant, or a Technician in a Telephone Exchange.

As I so often point out here on CiteHR, there is no ONE SIZE FITS ALL with training. All training modules must be designed with the specific organisation and it's requirements.

Your journey starts - as always - with a Training Needs Analysis. What skills and attributes do your Technicians need? Once you have established that, then your task of designing the modules is easy. You teach them what they need to know.

You will get all sorts of suggestions here, but I will guarantee that much of what people suggest will be unnecessary. You must concentrate on what YOUR organisation and YOUR staff need.

Training is expensive. Hit and miss, one size fits all training is a gross waste of your organisation's time and money.

Dear All, Thanks for replying to my query.
Dear Dinesh - I am not a trainer but I have been asked to design a module. HODs of diff departments have already given me the contents, I just have to document it professionally.
Dear John - Yes its very well known to me that technician role is different in each company and no one here is working in my company, but if you have read my post carefully you will know that I do not want knowledge what to teach but how to put it in a module. As I have mentioned in my post that I already have the contents/ topics of training I needed a module, since I never made any kind of module before so don't know how to put all the information in it and design it.
Dear Zypher, - Thanks for understanding my requirement. I have made a note of your suggestion and will try and work on it.
Thanks & Regards,

Dear Kavita.Rds,
You say you have all the contents given by HODs.
This means they have done the TNA and accordingly prepared the contents of the programme.
Perhaps some more tips may help you.
During training (whomsoever is doing the programme should)
TELL THEM WHAT YOU ARE GOING TO TELL THEM ( give a brief of the training objective),
TELL THEM (training process),
TELL THEM WHAT YOU HAVE TOLD THEM (summarise).
At the end of the training programme there has to be a test ( feedback) to understand what the participants have learnt.
This also has to be done with the help of HODs.

For a training module it is very important to have a training need analysis..You can talk to technical department head/supervisor as to the requirement of training. Also every Technician needs safety as basic requirement which he /she should be aware of..so you can go ahead with safety awareness as one of the attributes to be covered. For the other attributes you can talk to department head and understand on what attributes the technicians are evaluated. These attributes should be kept in mind while training.
There is a link that I found could help you in terms of design of a training module..please find it below:-
