I am currently doing a 1 yera Post Graduate Diploma in HRM in Bangalore.
We have been given an assignment for a particular case study. The case study is as given below-
„XRehman inheriting business of Moradabad Brass Industries in 2003 at the age of 24.
„XSayeed, his father, fair-minded, god-fearing craftsman, fetish for quality.
„XSales outlet started by Sayeed¡¦s wife, Bano in 1970.
„XShaikh- Sayeed¡¦s cousin managed the business.
„XBig Showdown when ownership is given to Rehman.
„XShaikh cripples business by pulling the skilled craftsmen to his side.
„XRehman has a big order for decorative brasswares from Madurai.
„XAll the workers who were meant to execute this task had left on being instigated by Sayeed.
„XRehman-MBA, specialization in HRD, knows the importance of HR.
„XRehman compiles an Inventory of HR only to realize the factory was much bigger than he thought.
„XIMMEDIATE TASK- His first task now is to prepare a manpower plan, to make up for the people who had left.
„XNext-Modernise the production facilites, by appointing a mechanical Engineer
„XModernisation task to be over in 8-10mths
„XSeven workers who could operate new machines would be required.
„XTraining for these 7 workers so that they become fully competent.
„XThese 7 workers would be equivalent to 20 manual workers.
„XNo need for retrenchment as there was adequate demand for his product.
„XSECOND TASK- Younger workforce, who would understand the importance of Modern Technology.
„XNo worker should be above 60 yrs as that would mean higher wages, lower productivity & conservative thinking.
„XMANPOWER PLAN- divided in 2 parts- Short term plan & Long term Plan
„XShort term plan to be implemented in 6-8mths
„XLong term plan to be implemented in 2-3 yrs
„XRehman takes help from his faculty from a business school in Lucknow, in preparing the MANPOWER PLAN
„XPlan is to indicate the source of recruitment for each type of employee.
„XThe Professor visits the factory, sees lot of people in the age group of above 60yrs
„XThese senior workers are deeply attached to Rehman as they have seen Rehman growing in front of their eyes. Rehman too has a lot of respect for them.
„XThe professor wants to relieve the senior workers but wants to ensure that it does not adversely affect the loyalty of the other workers
„XJointly it is decided to develop new ideas for introducing the concept of retirement.
Based on this case study, we have to make a powerpoint presentation reflecting the following points.
Criticial incidents/ statements
Assumptions
Alternatives
What has been given above as Case study is what i would like to include as critical events but i feel it is too lengthy.
Assumptions/ Alternatives are given below.
„XSayeed-Should have taken more interest in Management, Modernisation.
„XLess workers in the age group of 50-60 years
„XMore skilled workers than just ordinary craftsmen
„XShaikh- should have been given better role in Management
„XRehman to work under Shaikh to understand the place better.
„XThe 13 craftsmen who had left after getting instigated by Shaikh to be taken back by offering better compensation.
„XReduce work force in the age group of 50-60yrs, by means of VRS, making them Union leaders/ Supervisors.
Please let me know how to make the ppt, what points should it cover etc. How many slides should it have?
