Hi, I am a Mechanical Engineer and I want to develop my career in the HR profession. How can I improve myself towards the HR profession? Can you give me some suggestions or important tips for my better development of a career in HR? What are the better opportunities in the HR field?
Thank you.

Dear Kalyani,
What is your total experience after your graduation in Mech Engg? Have you worked in IT or manufacturing?
Nothing wrong as such if you enter in HR. But then for Mech Engg, the allied diversification is into SCM. How is your inclination towards Maths? If you have a mathematical bend of mind, then rather than HR, SCM is the right field for you. You may think of taking a Diploma in OR from ORSI.
In fact, how good are you in Ops? I ask you this because I have trained hundreds of Mech Engineers and found them having forgotten everything related to Ops.
Have you done a SWOT Analysis of your career? Click here to know more about the Career Skills.
I recommend you do a job market survey as well. My observation is that a Manager (Ops) or Manager - Purchase or Manager SCM draw a higher salary than Manager HR. Therefore, take the decision carefully.
Other seniors may give their opinions.
All the best!
