hi,
i have also done MBA Biotech from Amity university, as i am workin in a biotech firm, i believe its different here because no doubt u have to deal with people but here (biotech firm) PEOPLE are basically scientist or science graduates, they have there own perceptions about the management practices. So u ll have to study, observe and than formulate strategies relating to them.

Dear Vaishnavim,

1. HR in any industry does not differ. HR is a function and functional aspects of HR would remain irrespective of industry that you choose.

2. There are certain differences because of the following reasons: -

(a) whether your company is registered under Factory Act or Shops & Establishment Act

(b) whether it is Pvt Ltd or Public Limited company

3. The basic components of HR remain same viz. Manpower Planning, Recruitment & Selection, Training & Development, Performance Management, Career Planning and so on. Now to handle these components effectively, you need to have knowledge of the industry, pulse of the industry, certain key words that are specifically used in the industry. Your effectiveness as HR lies in your knowledge of the operations of the company.

4. Some statutory aspects would differ depending on whether it is a factory or service industry. However, attendance management is important in whatever industry you are into.

Thanks,

Dinesh V Divekar
