Hi all,
I am Komal , MBA in HR 2012 passout, a budding HR profesional working as a HR Executive for about a year now.
Currently am working with a small firm with around 20 employees.
Though the profile is HR Executive my work involves 80% recruitment.
Rest includes designing KRAs, forming various HR letters, induction, handling exit interviews etc.
Am looking for an opportunity to work in the generalist ares.
I am getting job opportunities from IT companies but all are for recruiter profile wheras am looking for a generalist one.
As this would be similar to my current profile am avoiding job hops to maintain stability.
Can anyone please suggest if would it be wise to switch to a bigger company for Recuiter position or have patience and stick to current organization unless i get a desired designation in other company.
Kindly guide.

Hi Komaloza,
Your current Designation & profile as mention is good bcoz u did 80% Recruitment.
It will help to you in future. I suggest you to enlarge your HR Area to get more exposure for preparing next level u want as HR GENERALIST.

Hi Komal,

In my purview, you still need to gain more exposure in recruitment. Now a days, due to the high competition in HR consulting, the recruiters are becoming mere telecallers and they fail to do proper screening as they are chasing the numbers.

I suggest, understand the complete recruitment process, analyze the drawbacks, try to fix them, take up initiatives, explore the global market and so on.

If you really want to do a job, do anything. If you want to build your career, anything you do, do it perfectly with complete knowledge.

I am sure, there are lot many more things to learn in every and any field.

Coming to your query, I agree HR Generalist is a decent profile and every one would be looking for a similar position. But, spend some time in understanding the facts. By the time you try to adjust in to the new environment, and by the time you start digging into your responsibilities, half of your career is gone. There would be no time left for learning.

I strongly, recommend, gain enough exposure in recruitment (as one year is not a great experience).

Dear Komaloza,
Some time person joines as recruiter and handles work of Generalis also, even its good to you that you getting all round experiance.
Current organisation you have not getting that much opportunity to face employee problems and their issue to you if you getting any MNC companys opportunity than you should take that opportunity .
To joning MNC you will get too much experiance to face employees and their issue which you not gets in small organisation.

I hope you might have studied what is SMART goal setting in life, preceded by SWOT analysis. What is your ultimate objective in life ?? What you want to accomplish ultimately ? Sit back and do some introspection. Your career planning should have some goals and objectives followed by some Action Plans.

Please remember that if you keep on hopping from one job to another every year, after a few years, you will realise that you are just a JACK OF ALL TRADES BUT MASTER OF NONE ! You wont be able to learn everything in life in a short span of time. Use your spare time to qualify yourself further such as SAP / Oracle platforms for various HR activities.

Try to stay in each organisation atleast for 3 to 5 years, learn everything that organisation can offer, not only HR related but also other related business areas. Only then you can become a complete professional.

Be patient and learn things one by one and become a master in that topic or subjejct. You can do specialisation only after about 10 years of experience. HR field is quite vast - right from Recruitment to Retirement.

Best wishes
