Background verification process vary between organisation to organisation and also between clients. if you are hired in a MNC and would be joining some big banks like 5/3 Internation/ADP etc then they will check in detail. It will include
1. Previous company verification
2.Designation
3. Fixed and Variable Salary
4. Duration
5. Criminal Record
6. Educational records
7. Address Verification
Third party ususally carry these process and share the feedback in points. They never give the negative report but yes they show the discrepancy (if any) in your records.
Now it depends upon your HR manager/team manager to keep you in the company as per severity level of points.
