Dear All,
I am going to take up Graduation Project for MBA(HR). I approached the company and the manager(quality control) told me that one of major problem of our company is shortage of labour force. We are facing this problem for the last two years. We train the labours with a view to improve productivity of the organization, but they leave the organization when they get skills. How can these labours be retained to harness their skills and talents? I want to do project on this issue.
Please guide me what steps should be taken to retain the labour force.
Thanking you,
Visu

Retention of labour has two angles. It is very easy to retain non performing Labour but it is very difficult to retain performing labour. Though the establishment's work culture and climate have direct impact on retaining good manpower, bad manpower can be retained even with a very bad work culture. Therefore, a generalization about it is not always possible.
I have seen that where social security and care are given to the employees, the attrition is less and at the same time where IR is poor, attrition is very high. It is right where bosses are ego centric and have gained the position by mean and not by ability. That means, employees leave 'managers' and not the organisation.
Therefore, if you maintain good industrial or employee relations, you can retain labour otherwise there should be monopoly.
