Dear All,
I am working with a foreign exchange co. Wherin we have some attendance rules; every 4th late mark will be considered a half day. But some of the employees even on top management level arrive late continuosly & day by day its increasing. Everyone is well efficient, productive overall very beneficial to the co. and co. dont want to lose this employees by taking any harsh decision. Being in HR we need to take a step ahead to stop this late coming trend.
Some monetary benefits like starting up incentive scheme on punctuality wud be right, but will that work on top mgmt level?
You all are requested to pls suggest something which will help us to solve this problem in better way.

Poonam Sonawane.

Hi Poonam,
Raise the issue in any of the meeting coming shortly and request the seniors to come at time, as it will lead to punctuality of Juniors as well.. Because everybody wants to become like his senior.. Seniors are the source of inspiration of their team..
If it not get solved then discuss it with the Management and if possible issue a circular regarding this, stating coming late will not be tolerated any more.. and strict actions might be taken..

well what i did was i took an authority letter in writing from the management than any decision taken by me and the management is to be strictly implemented as we are looking forward to take the company to a higher standard.
Dont start issuing any memos or somethimg in the very beginning go for verbal or oral warnings in the beginning.

Hi
Late coming is a serious disciplinary issue and has to be entirely handled with lots of care as it will annoy the employees if some harsh steps are taken straight away. This issue has to be approached with lots of sensitivity.
To begin with, a Late Arrival Register can be kept and a mail can be circulated to all employees of the organization about this practice. The register has to be strictly monitored by Security / Admin Department so as to ensure that whoever comes late signs in that register. This creates a situation wherein employees will realize that their actions are scrutinised. Over a period of time you can go thru the register to understand the trend and employees who frequently come late can be called, educated and and counselled. Because there might be an genuine reason to it like personal issues, long distance etc. The issue has to be understood in detail and then expectations / policy is to be communicated to the employees.
But any change, commitment to such issues must come from the top. As they should lead as right examples and Rolemodels.

Welcome Poonam,
I agree that sending notice would be a harsh decision, But have already suggested before that raise the issue in general meeting and discuss the demerits of late coming and its adverse effects in company development.
If you don't get success with the same then take that step, as it comes under disciplinary action..
