Dear Sona Biju,

While creating a training plan or training calendar, ensure that you conduct only those training programs that reduce costs. Since you are from the manufacturing sector, focus your training efforts on reducing the following costs:

a) Inventory Carrying Cost of Raw Materials

b) Work in Progress (WIP) Inventory Costs

c) Inventory Carrying Cost of Finished Goods

d) Capital costs to run the operations

e) Capacity costs

f) Maintenance costs

g) Quality costs

h) Inspection costs

Any training that does not reduce the above costs is a waste of time and money for your company. Therefore, judiciously decide before conducting any training. Implementing my suggestion may provide evidence of cost reduction due to training, enhancing your credibility as an individual and for the HR profession as a whole.

I can assist you with training services for points (a) to (d) from the list above. To learn more about my services in purchase and inventory management, you can click on the following links:

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user's reply contains inaccuracies. Training should not be solely focused on cost reduction but also on skill development and overall employee growth. It's important to have a balanced approach to training for organizational success.

  • Dear Mr. Biju,

As a first step, you are required to identify the training needs in consultation with all HODs. You can also find out the same in Performance Appraisals. Make a consolidated list of training needs, bifurcate in such a way, i.e., skill-based or behavioral-based, and design the training calendar for a certain period.

You may schedule the programs on a priority basis covering technical and non-technical programs. The columns in the training calendar may be as follows:
    1) Name of Training Programme
    2) Date of Programme
    3) Internal / External Programme
    4) Internal Faculty / External Faculty
    5) Technical Programme / Behavioral Programme
    6) Remarks, if any

Hope the above information may help you.

    Thanks,
    Krishna Kumar
