Hi,

While we have maternity leave for female employees, I think there is no legal provision for paternity leave for male employees. I believe there is some provision for Central Govt Employees for paternity leave. However, private sector employers, at their own discretion, can consider this provision, and this leave would be helpful for eligible fathers to support their spouse and newborn baby.

Currently, there is no legal provision for paternity leave, but some companies, for the motivation of employees and to be a good employer towards their employees, make policies for the same.

For equal justice for both genders in corporate offices, manufacturing sectors, branch offices, and company stores, this practice should be followed.

In India, most of the big MNCs follow this culture and have implemented policies regarding paternity leave. Employees may avail paternity leave starting from 3 days before the expected delivery of the child, with a duration of 15 days, 10 days, or 1 month, depending on the management's discretion. The policy may also specify that the employee must have worked with the establishment for a minimum of 80 days, among other provisions.
