Hi seniors,

I am currently working in an MNC as an HR recruiter and I have 5 years of experience in recruitment. I have an idea to start a new manpower consultancy. Please clear my doubts.

- Is it a good time to start a recruitment consultancy?
- Is it safe to start as a freelancer at home before starting a new firm?
- To start a new consultancy, what will be the minimum budget?
- What is the market strategy for consultancy?
- Is there any procedure to do market research?
- What kind of industry is in a booming stage?

With regards,
Muki

Hello Muki,

Maintaining the seriatim, I will give my views as under:

1.0 Any time is a good time provided you have proven competency in a similar role in your present employment and if you have good contacts to start with.

2.0 If the above is affirmative, then starting from home is good enough. Opening an office can be at a later stage as the business grows.

3.0 Tacit Knowledge is the main thing. Office equipment and monthly usage charges of PC, printer, telephone, etc. would add up to the cost. You need to do homework to get these details.

4.0 You should be able to know this first and then only decide to leave your job. However, if you have the knowledge and reliable contacts to give you minimum business to sustain, you can go ahead. Specific Market Strategy has to be made if you have a project in mind.

5.0 If you have no idea of doing a Market Research, then it has to be done through Professional Services.

6.0 Please look into sector-wise growth of industries from published information. A word of caution: the scenario may quickly change. So it is good to be broad-based in the initial stages.
