Hello All,

I am in the process of framing HR policies for a mid-sized manufacturing company. I would like to know which major policies and processes it should contain specifically for a manufacturing company.

Regards,
Dipali.

Dipali,

In addition to what has already been provided, the most important policy is an HR "Retention and Engagement Policy". The essentials of that policy are:

1. Employees should live by their own value standards and be strong and independent in their use. Do not think of what the boss might want.

2. Everyone should be well-trained, and bosses will do everything they can to help.

3. The ten most important things to bring to work are attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, attitude, and attitude.

4. Bosses are suppliers whose main function is to supply high-quality support to their customers (subordinates).

5. Bosses must not issue orders except in situations where time does not permit proper instruction.

6. Employees should talk back to their bosses - ask for whatever you need to achieve excellence.

7. Self-control by each individual is the only control mechanism that will achieve superior performance.

8. Self-control will be backed up by bosses listening and responding one-on-one to the complaints, suggestions, and questions of their people and by holding weekly group meetings for the same purpose to ferret out conditions not supporting excellence.

9. We are all on the same team. We are all associates. Cooperate and treat each other well. Let's be superstars together.

Best regards, Ben Simonton

Dear Dipali,

On the internet, you can find many formats of this policy. However, what you should keep in mind is the nature of your organization and the industrial climate before proceeding. Secondly, policy framing is not an easy task. So, delve into the depths of your company, its culture, and then begin to format the policy with the sole discretion of top management.

Thank you.

Dear Deepali,

Greetings!!!

"One size fits all" approach hardly ever works while framing HR policies. Framing successful policies requires you to understand the organization, have a feel of the culture, and start slowly by working on making your policies acceptable to your employees.

In my opinion, your policies should revolve around at least the following pointers:

- Recruitment/Selection
- Workforce Planning and Diversity
- Performance Management
- Reward Management
- Workplace Management and Relations
- Workplace safety and health
- Building Capabilities and Organizational Learning
- HR Management Systems, Support, and Monitoring

In case you require any (Paid) help with a preliminary draft or want to outsource the drafting part of your policy formulation so that you can focus on implementation, you may contact the undersigned.
