Dear Vineet,
Shifts are work time schedules. For continuous process/service industries/establishments, there needs to be an arrangement of a set of relay (relieving) manpower. The shift arrangement should be such that it takes care of 24X7. So it is cyclic; after the First shift (A), obviously, there would be the second shift (B) and then the third (C).
The person's monthly shift schedule should be such that there is a change of shift, i.e., the employee should not always be in any particular shift. This shift change can occur after 2 days (min) to 6 days (max) - this is a general practice keeping in mind health aspects. There should be a minimum 24 hours rest (gap) between shifts of the next day. All other provisions of the Factories Act and rules about weekly off, rest periods, and overlapping of shifts apply.

Shift schedules are made in such a way that there should be no overlapping of persons. In my experience, for six days of working and one day off, the shift schedules are made in a pattern of A - C - B format.

You can plan in another way. If A is the morning shift, you can work for 4 days, then have one day off, and go for the C night shift for 4 days with 2 days off. After that, you can work the B shift or the 2nd shift for 4 days with 1 day off. This is in case you want to match the number of holidays with the people working a 5-day week. You can have 2 days of the A shift, 2 days of the B shift, and 2 days of the C shift followed by days off.

Normally, the shifts are rotated according to the following cycle: Morning -> Night -> Evening. This cycle is adopted to avoid continuous 16-hour working shifts and to provide a suitable gap for rest.

[QUOTE=vineet rana;2066813]Dear all,
I want to know about shift deployment. If my shift is A, then what will be the next shift? If it's B, then what will be the following shift? And if it's C, what will come next?
Dear Rana,
First of all, I would like to tell you that there will be 3 shifts in a day or night, i.e. A, B, and C.
Shift timings depend on your team lead or manager. They have the authority to create the shift roster and determine the schedule timings.
Shift A means the first shift, i.e., the morning shift. The timings for morning shifts start from 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM until 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM.
Shift B means the second shift, i.e., the afternoon shift. The timings for afternoon shifts start from 2:00 PM or 3:00 PM until 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM.
Shift C means the third shift, i.e., the night shift. The timings for night shifts start from 10:00 PM or 11:00 PM until morning 6:00 AM or 7:00 AM.
So, after the C shift, you will have the A shift again, i.e., the morning shift. The scheduling of timings depends on your manager.
All the best.

Dear Peers,
The first batch of people can work from Wednesday to Monday in the first shift, which means 6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The second batch of people will start from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., and the third shift will start from 9:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. For their attendance order, they can take leave consecutively on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, granting them a week off. Leave can be calculated based on their earned leave (EL) or casual leave (CL), or they can take one day off.
During the last week, the first batch will work night shifts for the upcoming week. The second shift personnel can continue with the first shift, and the night shift workers will continue their work from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Please let me know if I made any mistakes.
Thank you.
