Sir, my question is, what should I do next? I completed my B.Sc. in Computer Science in 2011, but I am currently working as an HR Associate. My English communication skills are very poor. Please help me find my future target. Every day, I am pondering what my next steps should be and how to achieve success in life. Should I continue in this job or explore other opportunities? Your guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi sabrirajk,
I would suggest that you should first decide what you really want to be – an HR professional or something else. If you want to leave an HR job just because of weak English, I would say this is not a valid reason. You can join English classes after your job or even learn to speak English through the numerous books available. Problems will arise in every field, and the better approach is to find a solution. Additionally, I don't think that HR is greatly impacted by English as you don't have to deal with customers.
If you are confused about what you want to pursue, I would recommend contacting a career counselor or trying to identify what you are good at and which job brings you happiness. Then, make your decision.
Best of luck.

Hi sabrirajk,
You are a lucky person. HR is a good field to work in. If you are in payroll, you will feel comfortable because that deals with numbers and software applications. Alongside, start your preparation to develop your communication skills. You have a good opportunity; just try to put your full effort into your work. All the best.

Good day Sabari,
At the very outset, do not be disturbed or confused. The HR role calls for a cool and firm temperament with a good command of communication. You have a B.Sc., but have you chosen the right field based on your interest, or did you take the job in HR to avoid missing out on an opportunity? Fluency is essential in any field, not just HR. Therefore, attend communication workshops, be confident, practice daily, and you are sure to succeed. WIN!

Dear all,
Good oral and written communication in the English language will always be an added advantage in corporates. In an HR role, when officially communicating with employees, workers, senior officials, or statutory authorities, you have to ensure the language you are using has good phraseology covering all legal implications and referring to all other clauses. For an entry-level position in HR, someone may not need to be an expert in English literature. However, as the years go by, you need to have the potential to effectively communicate at all levels. Please understand that HR is not an easy field to select; it requires good communication, attitude, diplomacy, smartness, and IQ to deal with all employees.

Vijayan

Being poor in English cannot be an obstacle in your career if you are determined to improve it. There are many institutions that offer various personality development and English speaking classes that can help you. However, what is more important is your determination, hard work, and practice to improve your English speaking skills.

Hi Sabairraj,
There is nothing to worry about the lack of communication skills, but you should be concerned about how to improve your communication skills. Consider joining an English development course and strive to strengthen your HR domain knowledge. By doing so, you can excel in the HR field.
