Hi all,
Was very much impressed by all the articles and proud to be a part of this HR community.
Can somebody help me in framing the leave policy for our organisation? This is an engineering construction company. We were currently following 15days(paid) annual leave structure. My MD has asked me to make it as 22 days and have asked me to divide into Casual leave,Sick leave & earned leave. Am the only HR person out of 100 employees. So there is nobody to discuss on this. Can anyone please help me out? :?:
Thanks & Regards,

dear gowri,

i welcome to this forum and i trust you can learn lot and also contribute more for members in this forum.

I also some time back worked in a constructing concern in Chennai.

What are the leaves available for staff ?

Earned Leave

Sick leave or medical leave

casual leave

maternity leave

and list goes ...............

So you have to divide 22 days into three categores that is (1) Casual leave (2) earned leave (3) sick leave.

Casual leave :

The un-avalialed casual leave in a particular year will not be carried forward to subsequent years.

As the word itself is convey the meaning.....this leave is taken for casual purpose that is the reason for taking leave need not be indicated.

Sick leave

The staff can take leave under this category and his leave should be supported by the medical certificate and fitness. This leave can be accumulated and carried forward to subsequent years.

Earned leave

One can accumulate this leave and carried forward to subsequent years.

For forumulating leave policy, my suggestions, based on little experience

a. Decide who is the leave sanctioning authority and number of days

they can sanction.

b. Format the leave application form.

c. Separate register has to be maintained for each and every employees

under each kind of leave.

d. You can suggest your MD that since leave is very sensitive issue and also pertaining to all the staff....employees views can be obtained ..and if it is not possible atleast..the head of variouis units in your concern can be collected.

e. Based on the feed back , you can prepare a proposal to your MD.

In our organisation ,we have 48 days leave....... Casual leave (8), Earned Leave (30) and Medical leave (10).

hope above very brief details will be of use to you. If you need more, perhaps let me know and i will try to go into details and let you know.

wishes

hi,
I would say no need to go for cl, pl, sl. It would increase ur paper work and work load. Instead give 22 days and let them enjoy the way they want . only put few conditions like prior approval , intimation etc so that organisational activity doesnot suffer.

hi gowri,
leave can be divided into 3 main categories, they are causal, sick or medical as well as earned leave.
during my summer training i got to know about 1 more category that is half day leave, where in the employee can either leave the office early or come after half day.
earned or paid leave should treated as a reward, the employees should feel good about getting them.
hope these tips can be beneficial for u
