Dear Friend
What is your understanding of old ways? List all and then we can discuss about new ways. I am not against new ways but dumping old ways by simply saying "Old ways" is not creative.
There are certain steps we can not avoid in induction and some companies have have framed very nice induction procedure. Depends on the age group depends on positions depends on the number and also depends on qualification.
I have used different procedures for
1. Trainee workmen
2. Diploma Holders
3 Engineer Trainees
4 MBAs
5. Expereinced people
6 Managerial level employees
7 GMs and CEOs
We cannit use the same process for all levels. Agian, people joining in Marketing will have different procedure. However, there are certain basic steps like getting a joining report, getting all statury foirms filled, giving employees all emergency contact numbers, providing holiday information, attendance procedures applicable to them, salary remittance info are common for all levels
Induction Process will have three steps
1. Joining Formalities This will include verification of forms to getting signed all forms required for PF ESI Gratuity etc
2. Induction to Organistion: Communicating to the employees about structure, certain policies, emergency numbers,( Depending on the size, a booklet can be given in addition to providing electronic data)Tea/cofee, lunch. Holidays. leave procedures, travel rules will have to be communicated. Facts are common There can be creativity only the way you communicate.
3. Induction to Department Most of us fail in completing the last phase. HR stops with induction at organistaion level. Handholding and making him to be comfortable in Department by a proper induction process is important. Many give the job directly on reporting to the department Some department heads have good induction system in his departement. Suggest that you evolve a proper induction to the department and to the job. Some IT companies and BPOs have good process and many of the trading and manufacturing companies do not have a good process here This is the most critical phase of induction
Thanks
