Hi Aruna,

This being your first question posted in this forum and it is indeed my pleasure to assist you.

There are many innovative techniques with respect to recruitment besides the traditional methods of job portals and database.

First is headhunting and please refer to my erstwhile article for some tips ..

https://www.citehr.com/822-head-hunting.html

The other tools are social networking sites such as Facebook, , twitter etc are all the rage and also people join here ( most of them ) for better prospects.
LinkedIn, yes - it has pretty much a 99% business focus and I have noticed, for the most part, users have been rather ‘protective’ of LinkedIn, usually trying to bring in people who are quality professionals or skilled artisans in the broadest definitions of those terms.
This gives one some leads and understanding of the skills sets one is looking for and head hunt them . Incase if they are not interested in a change definitely they would refer someone usually their friends who might be looking for a change.

Getting the database of the people who have attended the particular seminar or course relevant to your industry.

Lastly making the organizational mapping or structure of the department of the target companies which is the source of talent required.

Once again welcome to the a great knowledge sharing forum and hope you would enjoy and learn as much as I have over the last 4 years here !

Best wishes,

I guess you are looking at B & C class cities's colleges for the recruitment.

Apart from the usual method of getting the numbers from directory and cold calling which often doesn't generate interests.

Give advertisement about your requirements in local newspaper in these cities which would be very reasonable rates wise and you would get the profiles who want to explore the options with your company.

Secondly, would strongly urge you to think about the branding of your organization by publishing the article about your firm, business and future expansion plans etc in local newspapers.

Tie up with the local placements to do the neccessary leg work if you are unable to reach the relevant colleges.

Hope this helps and incase of queries - please do ask..

A:

Since this is a specalised sector; would urge to develop the database of the candidates from the job portals.

Find out about the yahoo groups of such specialised course/alumni. Like the food technologists from CFTRI Mysore have a yahoo groups for Alumni which updates them on the news and job opportunties. This information you would get from the colleges/instititutes where these courses are held.

Hello Bhawana,
Social sites like twitter, facebook & orkut have not been taken seriously for recruitment for the simple reason - the people share their views on various topical issues or keep in touch with others. However as a recruiter it helps to be a part of these groups to know the people and their interests for networking. Hence, in a year or two they would be in the same league as linkedin has achieved today.
