Hi Seniors,

I would like to share my feelings with you all and ask for some motivation. I have recently joined a small software start-up company, working in the HR team. Prior to this, I was part of a recruitment team for a year as an HR Recruiter. When I joined this company, I was expecting a different role involving core HR activities. However, the company primarily focuses on software development in the IT industry and is now expanding into staffing as an additional business. I have realized that I will once again be primarily involved in recruitment activities, which has left me feeling upset as I was hoping to learn more about core operational activities. Additionally, as the only HR personnel, I am solely responsible for handling core activities for our employees. Despite this, I am struggling to motivate myself. I seek your advice on how to overcome this mindset. With only around 1.5 years of experience, I am still eager to transition into a core HR role.

I understand that recruitment is a fundamental process in HR, yet I find my mind constantly distracted, almost feeling like I am in a BPO setting, constantly calling candidates. I am attempting to change this perspective but have been unsuccessful so far. I kindly request strong points and motivation to help me navigate this challenge, as I firmly believe that without passion and interest, it is difficult to excel in any job. I am determined to give my best to my company, my boss, and my work.

I eagerly await your response.

Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Anuradha S.

Hi Seniors,

I would like to share my feelings with you all and seek some motivation. I recently joined a small startup software company as part of the HR team. Prior to this role, I worked for a year as an HR Recruiter in a recruitment team. I was hoping for a different role in core HR activities at this company, which primarily focuses on software development in the IT industry. However, they are now expanding into staffing as an additional business venture.

I have realized that I will be primarily involved in recruitment activities once again, which has left me feeling upset as I was looking forward to learning more about core operational activities. Despite being the only HR personnel, I am responsible for handling all core activities for our employees. Unfortunately, I am struggling to find motivation. I only have around 1.5 years of experience but I am eager to transition into a role that involves core HR activities.

I understand that recruitment is a crucial aspect of HR, but I find myself getting discouraged, almost feeling like I am working in a BPO setting where I am constantly calling candidates. I am trying to change this mindset, but I am finding it challenging. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with some strong points and motivation. Without passion and interest, it is difficult to excel in any job. I am committed to giving my best to the company, my boss, and most importantly, to myself.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Anuradha,

You are right as recruitment is also a part of HR, and you are doing the same. Nowadays, you can refer to recruitment with different terminology like Talent Hiring, just to change your mindset. You mentioned that you are doing the same as BPO. I don't think that's correct, but it varies from person to person. Alternatively, you can think of it as looking for the right talent to hire to be a part of your organization.

With additional responsibilities, this is a crucial stage to showcase your performance. If you perform well at this stage and prove yourself to the organization, you can grow fast, and of course, the organization will also witness growth. In fact, I can say this is the right platform for you, and you need self-motivation as well.

Be patient. Do whatever task is given to you. Once they see your sincerity and talent, you will get a wider scope of the job and higher responsibilities. Do the present job in a motivated manner and see if you can cut costs of recruiting by your skill.
