Hello everybody ,
Need to prepare a 1 day training module for Management students on the topic "People Management".
The motive of training is to develop good people management skills which can help them in their first and subsequent jobs .
Since the target audience is students/ freshers who don t have any organizational experience
I need your help .
Kindly tell me what all I need to include in my training curriculum keeping in mind that they don t have any prior employee - employer relationship experience.
Also if you can make me aware of any training activities or games in particular which can illustrate the essence of the training , I would be obliged.
Thanks and regards.

Dear Learner,

The transition of a Student into the Professional world is a very important phase in everyone's life. The real test of their life begins by gaining an acceptance of the realities in the corporate world. The important thing to remember here is that students come across many stories told by family members, friends, senior students, etc. and this sometimes can create anxiety for them.

The modules prepared should be based on real life scenarios they will face in the Corporate world and how to get the basics right that helps them gain confidence and not lose face when engaging their first professional assignment. Students do through millions of questions in the transformation process and the training should address their queries.

Suggestions:

Module 1

Attitude - Very important as they are making a transition into a controlled environment where no one is a fellow student or buddy. It is therefore important for them to understand the fact that in the Corporate world you stand alone. They need to bring a change in their attitude about this.

Module 2

Verbal Skills - The modes of addressing people in business. Are we still in the age of SIR/MADAM? Is it going to be a more open culture. They need to be mentally prepared and need to learn to get the basics right. This could be as simple as writing an email.

Module 3

Non Verbal Skills - Body language plays an important part. The use of hands for expressions, facial expressions, frowns, legs, stance. They all have a meaning and people read them well.

Module 4

Dress Codes - They need to invest wisely by choosing the right outfit for work. Casual wear to be avoided at all times. Colour codes (at work people want a professional not Govinda in purple pants and yellow shirts). Socks, shoes, ties (all these give a brief insight about the professional standards and impression a person carries). EX- White socks in the Corporate World are considered a disaster. The colour of the socks should always match the colour of the trousers or shoes.

Module 5

Greeting People in Business - Hello, How are you? or Wassup?

Module 6

Business Meal Etiquette - The rule of the fork and the knife, etc. While most freshers will get familiar with the local eateries outside the office, it is always good to know what needs to be done if they are in a situation.

Teamwork and Conflict Management - Student tend to be more aggressive at times when they enter the Corporate World as they have to mature in ways a business, an organization, processes s and bureaucracy works. It takes months and sometimes years to understand why a particular request is approved or declined. In such circumstances the students aggression is not going to work. Their maturity in handling such situations will win the day.

Dear Dearlearner,
Aussiejohn has given you some good advice and so have others. You seem to be good at raising questions; I wish that you improve the ability to answer questions raised. For example, please see https://www.citehr.com/472831-how-pr...g-outline.html
When you say students, what is their background? You need to gear the training sessions suited to their qualifications. For example, are they MBAs or doctors? You also need to say who will deliver the training sessions and their background. For example, a fresh graduate embarking on a training session will not be as effective as a person that is well experienced in training, and also one that has industrial experience. Lectures by fresh MBAs, whose knowledge is only based on what they have learnt in books, are not as effective as those of a person who is an experienced manager. The latter can bring examples from his own work experience to support the theories.
Hence, please gives us as much information as possible.

Dear Dearlearner,
To support Aussiejohn's advice and motivate you to become a self-learner, I am giving this link that I found by searching the web. The importance of interpersonal skills - OpenLearn - Open University You can see what search terms I used if you go to https://www.google.co.uk/#q=people+m...s+for+freshers
It would be much appreciated, if you kindly would post the structure that you come up with for your courses. The more effective way of learning is giving answers to ones own query and seeking help to improve the structure and contents, rather than just keep asking for ideas.
I am sorry if I am touching sensitive nerves of some bloggers and causing pain.

It would be better for you to undergo a proper basic Train the Trainer programme first, before embarking on posting spree in CiteHR ! As a trainer, you are supposed to know and do some research on your participant profile and also tailor-make your module, based on that research. Further, internet has abundance of inputs available. As our learned professionals averred above, please post your queries here, as the last option - not as the first one !!
Best wishes
