I am rather intrigued by the question raised, without giving a context, and the responses given. My experience of going to interviews in India over 50 years ago, and in the UK over 30 years ago, is that I had to introduce myself by just stating who I was. So, I searched the web for "How does one introduce self when going for a job interview in the UK?" and found some answers at the following sites.
- [How Will I Give My Introduction To The Interview Board?](http://www.blurtit.com/q677439.html) Clearly states "In your introduction, you simply want to firstly introduce yourself and let them know your name."
- [How do you introduce myself as a teacher in an interview](http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_you_introduce_myself_as_a_teacher_in_interv iew)
- [Interview Skills](http://www.kent.ac.uk/careers/intervw.htm)
The material I found confirms my experience.
