I am not in a position to look for new opportunities...since it's a campus placement...MNC offered senior position to me..and it's a big brand...What should I reply them if they raised this question that your prev. Employer don't have tax records during your tenure of working...So we can't trust wheather it's legitimate firm or not

Their purpose of verifying GST number as per my assumption is to ascertain the existence of the Company. As your past employer got GST number now, if they share that would be sufficient. There is no need GST number should exist during your tenure with that Company.
