Just by keeping originals you can not ensure attrition is controlled. There are other ways and means to control the attrition, why don’t you (your management) try that. Best witshes.

Its very sad state of affair that even in India still such employers exists.
I have had a opportunity to work in ME. There are many companies who would insist on depositing original certificates & passport.
If you look at ME (middle east) situvation there is a fair amount of justice in such policy beacuse, a employee who is having company property viz., Laptopn, imprest amount, advances can fly back to India with out intimating the company and abscond himself. This is done in ME basically for security purpose.
In your case its the factor of "Trust". In the first place you are giving message to the market from where you get the candidate that:
1) "I don't trust my employees from day one".
2) Passpot, Driving License, Education certificates are all personal property of a individual and in India no on individual/organization can take & keep it with them, its not legal.
3) A bond from a employee is not valid(in india) unless the other party (organization) has spent on employee's training.THe amount of money spent (should have sufficiaent proof for such expenses)& the duration of the bond period and amount spent should have reasonable correlation.
4) Suppose you insist on a employee to serve bond period, who is not willing to continue in your organization is like.. keeping unproductive/unhappy/nagative person with you and he can be counter productive and can become a person spreading nagativity about workplace with other. You are trying to unionise the employees.
Instead try and create positive environment, any one wishes to go.. smile & say all the best.. but try to understand reason & work on it.

I agree with you. Collecting Original documents is not a perfect solution to minimize the attrition. As mentioned above, the employees should be taken into confidence by giving a better environment, package and applicable freedom of work . Various performance packages and appreciation of work will surely bring in a commitment towards the organization.

See this is fraud.
I have worked in such kind of company with bond and submit my original docs. That company is LIBSYS LIMITED a fraud company... totally fraud. They took no actually snached our orginals docs by telling us so many lies and promises. And after 1 month they started showing us there true color... (i.e. dark than black). And I hated that company that much that I didn\'t care for my bonuses of 1.4L and resigned just next day of completion of bond. And the whole batch of 2010 left their bonuses and finally left the company without caring of bonuses. So I hate those companies a lot. And remember LIBSYS has much more well talented employees but no one is ready to be with the company and everybody switch to top branded companies without any failure. In my last terms \"LIBSYS IS FRAUD, FULL OF PIRACY, CRIMINAL, DISGUSTING,AND WORST THAN HELL\".
