There are different perceptions on Labour Relations. If the past view was centred on how labour could be put to effective use by MANAGING them PROPERLY, the present view is centred on how effectively the RESOURCES in Labour could be utilised. In all observations, directly or indirectly, managing the personnel is present. To be successful you have to be very patient, tactful, flexible and confident of labour laws. Have a proper understanding of the Standing Orders of the company. Study the psychology of the men, have an idea of the family back ground of the employees and always try to settle the issues within your cabin itself. Be friendly towards workers, but never be sentimental. This is because you have to consider the interests of the Management as well.

There is hardly any difference between Labour and Employee when viewed from Industrial and labour enactments. However, those covered under labour laws ( at present most of the Acts cover according to wages paid and as such an average pay of Rs 10000- except EPF under which it is 6500- can be taken) can be presumed to be coming under Labour and all ministerial/ administrative staff members come under 'Employee". Still, the expression "Employee" includes labour/ workers. Therefore, this term can be replaced to the narrow term 'Labour Relations"

There is difference between labour and employee, Labour means who performes his duty as an unskilled/semi skilled/skilled category and he has no other power to look after any type of work in a supervisory capacity . Becuase a workman can be a manager and a manager can be a workman it depends on nature of work .
Employee means who comes in the category of supervisor/officers/managerial staff and having power to supervision of work as done by the workmen who are under the control of immediate supervisor

Dear Mr. Ashok,
Sorry to say that this kind of classification is a matter of practice only and as pointed out by me also employee is supposed to include managerial staff. But whenever the position is questioned, it will come out of the purview of ' labour' and we fail to confine unskilled, semi skilled and casual labour to the term for which it is intended to. With the increase in cost of living and wages, now most of the laws have made applicable to those drawing upto Rs 10000. In the light of this and with the advent of workers being replaced by Knowledge centres, why don't we call all workers as employee ?
