Dear Manisha,
It is subjective, company to company.
Check what your policies say about it.
I personally feel, it should not be counted towards leave.
In my company too, such a weekly off was counted towards leave, until yesterday, when the policy was modified.
So best would be refer your policies.
If you are not able to find anything in the policies, check with your seniors how were they treating it in the past. And as far as possible try to document the clause for future references.
Best Regards

Most of the conservative company (mostly traditional Indian Companies)treat the weekly off as a leave. eg..I have gone thorugh in Dharani Sugars Ltd as well as in Sterling Holiday Resorts. Things are changing now and it relates more of Employee welfare and taxing too much on employees and I last heard from these two companies that they remo0ved the old policy.
As Harsh says it depends from company to company.

Dear Manisha,
1. If your employee is daily rated, then his weekly off should not count as a leave. It will be weekly off only.
2. if your employee is montly rated , then your co. paying salary for all weekly off. In this case, his weekly off should be taken as leave.

Dear Manisha,
Strictly speaking, if you are apermanent employee of the concerned, the weekly off falls in the midst of leave you applied, it will be treated as leave only. If the weekly off falls eithr beginning or end of the leave period you applied, it will not.
regards.

In our company we have a policy where, if the leave is for more than 5 days, then the weekly holidays are counted as leave and if less than 5 days it will not be counted as leave but left as weekly holiday. This is because we have 5 working days in a week.
More over if its LOP then it will be considered as leave.
