Training and development are two important aspects of a healthy workforce. Most
workplaces have developed programmes for the enhancement of employees and getting
them adapted to the environment. It is considered a healthy human resource development
exercise.

Employees are a company’s biggest asset, and training them is one of the essential parts of
sustainable business growth. Proper training and guidance not only aids in the development
of employees, but also increases efficiency of the company and assists them in leading their
personal growth. Investing in your employees professional development is vital for team
retention, and employees would stay at a company longer if it invested in their career
development.

Let’s dig into the importance of employee training and development
programs. Why is employee training important?

Employee training helps them to learn precise skills or knowledge to improve their
overall performance. The essential part of employee training is to shape a more efficient,
competitive and engaged workforce. Training and development make employees more
productive and effective and make them actively participate in tasks.

Some reasons for training and development of employees from a human resource aspect
are:

● Creating a high-skilled and motivated workforce: Motivation is very important for
the effective and optimal performance of the workforce. Motivation works as a thrust
which makes employees work to their full potential and achieve the desired results
for the organisation.

● Increases productivity: Productivity is an important factor in the development and
growth of an organisation. Productivity also helps to motivate employees to work
efficiently and boost values.

● Quality of work: While focusing on achieving results or working on deadlines, one
should also focus on the quality of work too. Quality should not be compromised as
both quality and productivity are essential factors in a company's growth. .

● To build team spirit: We exist in an environment where we are dependent on others,
which results in communication. Corporates should take the necessary steps to
prepare a healthy ecosystem which can be helpful to employees in adjusting to one
another with team spirit.

● Employee skill enhancement: Skill enhancement can be very helpful in the long run
as it has a positive impact on corporate performance, and as an individual employee
can also evolve through it.

The workforce is trained to increase productivity and motivated to contribute their skills
towards the organisation. This makes the employees more confident and they can accept
the changes readily.

Training that takes place in a group helps with employee engagement and makes them more
understanding. It helps them to interact with each other and provides them a space where
they can have a better understanding of their teammates and the organisation. This helps
them create team spirit among the employees.

Employee training and development programmes help them in their thought and behaviour
processes and provide them with the tools to build a healthy work environment. This also
leads to the personal growth of the employees. The employees are encouraged to learn
about new topics and concepts to keep them updated. This helps in promoting the learning
culture and helps them in their future.

Employee training benefits both employees and employers. It aids the employee’s
development as a productive asset to the organisation.

● To increase productivity,
● To improve the quality of work,
● To decrease the learning period.
These are the key benefits for both employees and employers. Training employees helps
employers in increasing their performance as a corporation and helps employees to enhance
their knowledge and skills. Training helps the employee gain more confidence and learn new

values.

Importance of training employees as individuals and in groups:
As an individual,
● Training improves an individual's skills and knowledge,
● It helps them to solve present problems and anticipate future challenges,
● It helps in improving individual performance.

As a group,
● To maintain team spirit,
● To maintain a positive relationship with employees,
● Avoid miscommunication and can have a smooth workflow.

Conclusion:
Every organisation should train and educate their employees to find their talents, skills, and
capabilities. During the employee training period, we can find out the individual skills and
talents of the employee and help them with their professional growth. Employers can also
provide training for a particular role based on the employee's skills and knowledge. And if
they observe progress, they can be hired for that particular job.

Dear Senj82,

Whether you have written this article on your own or these are someone else's thoughts is not known. I wish you had clarified it.

Anyway, in your long article, you have given reasons for conducting employee training. However, nothing is written about the effectiveness of the training. I wish you had mentioned a line or two on the measurement of the Return on Investment (ROI) on training. An employee training cannot be conducted just with good intentions. Someone has to take ownership of checking the result of the intentions. Who else other than HR can be made accountable for doing so?

In the heading of your post, you have mentioned that the article is "HR Perspective". Yes, truly it is an HR perspective. I say so with a little irony because in the last 15 years, hardly I found an HR professional taking interest in the measurement of ROI. This was so even though I tried giving help to them in doing so. Measurement of ROI on training misses from their thought process as much it has been missed in your article.

6-7 years ago, I had given a reply to a post on employee training. In that, I too had mentioned why employee training needs to be conducted and what we should measure. You may click the following link to refer to it:
