2. Street smartness
3. Ability to read between the lines
4. Good command over English language since the position demands a lot of writing, especially the legal jargon.

Greetings of the day,
I agree with the member above and you must not think about what your seniors are saying or listen to them and give them your attention in this regard. We dont know what and why your seniors are saying this but you are an educated person and doing your masters not a bachelor, therefore, you have to take the things positively with better understanding. You just need to focus on your studies and stand with your decisions and motive instead of getting distracted by these kinds of things.
Second, I would like to know what made you feel to go for MSW while enrolling, and what are your motive/target/objective of career and what are the differences between MSW-HR and Core HR in your understanding.
Third, as stated by Mr. Saikumar above that HR is really an important part of Organization, is true but MSW, is bit different and you must have known this fact too as you are a Masters Student and at half of your study. MSW HR has different areas then Core HR and at industry level, and is mostly deal with human approaches.
Let me share something with you and other. I remember a question asked by a mate in my Collage (MBA-HRM) while our discussion over Human Resource Management and Human Relations, she asked, “What are the major differences between Human Services - Human Services Administration/ Relations and Human Resource Management (Core HR)?” that was really a good question and gave me a better understanding on that. And I believe this can also help you a lot if you would try to answer this question at your own by your study, understanding and research.
Could you share your topic/subject of Study under MSW?
See, MSWs trained to help people cope with and overcome social problems. Social workers generally enter in this field not for the money, but because they have a desire to help people is another fact that you must be aware of it. They often provide counseling and work as administrators, researchers, policymakers and planners. Could you please share yourself on your present learning and understanding on MSW studies and what you have gained so far. This can also help other, me and to all who are attached to this in many ways.
For more you can go through the following discussions

Also I would like to share something that I believe can help you more in regards to your career/future Career after MSW

Dear Mahesh,
I have read the comments above and agree with them generally. Many young people go through if he is a phase of anxiety regarding career regarding career development. The course content of MSW is a little different from the course content of MBA-HR. However people from MSW stream do get HR jobs in various industries.
First of all you need to clarify in your mind whether you would like to build a career in counselling, extension services, welfare etc. or hard core HR. If you wish to build career in HR, please clarify the followings in your mind:
• Would you like to find a job within your hometown, within Gujarat State or you mobile outside the State.
• Which Industry would you prefer – Manufacturing, Exports, IT, ITES (BPOs, KPOs etc.), Education, or any other.
• Please make efforts to understand the practical side of Labour Laws like PF, ESI etc. It will be good if you can visit a nearby company and understand as to how PF and ESI acts are implemented and how periodical returns are sent.
• How grievance handling is done at the workplace and proactive steps are taken to maintain harmonious employee relations.
• How Personnel Files are maintained.
• How recruitment and induction of employees has done.
You still have 6 months time. You can do some research as to which companies are present in Gujarat State and what kind of HR practices these companies have. You can also work with yourself to cultivate written business communication skills, soft skills and interview skills.
You can join the group “Career Planning for Students” on linkedin where discussions on such queries of young people are being set up.

hello sir,
i am very happy to inform you about social work. i would like to give one title of social work "the journey of social work" in my life. the journey started from the year 2008. i basically belong from the dahod district in gujarat. i did my 12th. my father told me that one of his friend's daughter is studying in BSW i.e bachelor of social work. then my father asked me you should join this course then i said ok. from the very next day we came in anand district(where AMUL IS SITUATED) and then got admission in BSW. earlier i did not about social work. one day hostel warden asked me mahesh what are you doing i said sir i am doing BSW in n s patel arts college. then he asked me what is the full form of BSW. i said bachelor of social worker. then sir corrected my mistake that it is bachelor of social work. then about social work in the curriculam of BSW we have to undergo in 1 year placement in village, ngo and slum twice in a week. i was placed in village slowly i came into contact with my senior who were doing their MSW. we did some activities with them like awareness program on addiction, health survey and eye check up camp with the help of nearby eye hospital.
one of funny experience on first year i would like to write, we were making aware school students about the addiction and one of our senior was chewing tobbaco and giving information, teacher of that school got that and she said please first you leave your bad habits and then make aware someone.
during the first year i came to contact with village people i started to communicate with them and learned to deal with them. during the communication we came to know about the different social problem like poverty, problem related to agriculture, unemployement, educational problems, school drop outs etc..
then 2nd year i placed in one blind welfare school where i usually communicate with them, i observed them they are really talented students. i was teaching the students of that school. i was not able to do that but i was trying to put my efforts to make them understand whatever i want to deliver. slowly and gradually that feelings came in me to serve people and try to help someone. then i did my bachelor and got good marks.
then me and some friends again met in the master degree. MSW started and then we decided to work on the blood donating programme. we framed one group named " THE REVIVALS" we approached all the classmate in our class and made them understand about the concept and how it would be helpful for the other people. and we know that day by day lots of accidents are occuring and there are other diseases in which blood is important. so we donate our blood around the anand and baroda, whoever need blood they just contact us and we go to that place. then we approached all the students of social work department and make them a part of THE REVIVALS. presently we have more than 200 students registerd. so with the study we started a little program to serve the huminity. so to expand our group we need financial support. so thats why we all friends decided to get good job and we will try to make our group more stronger.
i know this efforts are not so, we have to do lot of hardwork on that. and we are on initial stage of social work. WE CAN NOT DO BIG THING BUT BY THE STARTING A LITTLE THING WE CAN MAKE A BIG DIFFERANCE. this is all about social work hope you all will like my little story.
