Dear Seniors, I have recently joined a small educational institution with pvt ltd status and have 6 branches in the same city.

The directors and the owners are same.We have three directors who takes care of sales, training and hrd.

I joined as HR manager for this company. There was no HR department. Since i am new to the system i stated with making policies in consultation with my director. But whenever we try to implement something new other 2 directors protest.

The company has a very high attrition rate and we are not getting people easily. No traditional recruitment policies are working plus the package is low.

They never involve me in any departmental meeting or any other discussion. And then they say that you are still unable to understand the system.

I try to communicate with employees for their problems, but for this also they have problem.. The departments are working as water tight compartments and they do not like interference of Hr as well.

They say HR is not active, but whenever i try to do something they create problem. They don't even let me celebrate festivals or occasions.

They do not have appraisal standards, but now they want me to do employees appraisal.

there are lot of problems ,but any suggestion management doesn't accept.

Seniors Kindly suggest how to move ahead with this.

Thanks

Dear 7110,
What kind of Education Institution you have? What type and what is the level of education is imparted?
The solution for your problems lie in your post itself. Out of three when one of the directors try to bring change, the other two oppose him. This only goes on to show the resistance to change. It would be too difficult to bring change under such circumstances.
One of the means to bring change is to start measuring various costs associated with your business. For this again involve the Director who is supportive to you. Try calculating cost of employee attrition. Since you say attrition is very high then find out the reasons of employee attrition from the staffs who have exited your institution.
Another problem with your sector is that customer satisfaction cannot be measured easily. Try measuring parents' satisfaction.
Thanks,

Dear Employee
Sincerely approach your Directors and discuss your problem with them. If possible conduct a joint discussion about normal operation and consequence of dissident or lack unity or professional ethics in organization. Same time search a job in a reputed organization

Thank you sir for your response.
It is a spoken English and Corporate Training center. We get students from college as well as companies.
Another problem is each of the director feel their department is most important, they become over protective for their team and forget the company benefit.
80% of our staff leaves in one year. And then finally the whole blame lies on HRD.

Apart from the above, I suggest you ask the Director who is supportive to you, that why the management has employed you, if they don't need any change in system.
Iam sure this would be a biggest question for him to answer; Moreover, I would also suggest you to get along with the management and just do what has been asked to for a couple of months & then take a call on it.

You'll seldom find bosses who would welcome changes in their existing systems. It's very much clear the main reason for your attrition rate being very high is 'not-so-attractive package. First you should realise your org.'s line of profession is not going to be one for any budding youth to cling on to. At best it could be a spring board, for an immediate reqt.,for the time being. And you can't have long serving staff on your rolls. The Directors are not bothering you, fine, whatever they ask you to do, do it, and communicate with them thru' mails and materials on circulation to all the Directors. When you put it up in B & W you'll have an escape route. And as highlighted by Dinesh every proposals of yours should always accompany the advantages and growth plan for the orgn. Without these it would be very hard for you to process any changes. If they wanted Emp.appraisals, carry it out, are you averse to it ? Incidentally what's your mind set, do you have plans to continue with this org. for some more years ? Then get along with them. Otherwise look out for a change. Most bosses don't like their subordinates becoming more smarter, if it will not worth it don't waste your time and risk your career.
