I have recently joined a company. It is an automobile company. I am here as an HR Executive, and I have 6 months of experience in a consultancy firm. Here, there is no one to guide me because the person who was handling HR has left before me. Moreover, people don't know much about HR here. As I am a fresher, the Deputy Manager has assigned me the responsibility of recruitment, incentives, attendance, and leave only. However, the employees here are not very cooperative, and data has not been maintained properly. So, I would like suggestions from you. Please guide me on where to start and how.

Since it is a manufacturing company, it will be a bit easy for you to do some of these things. In a manufacturing company, you have to strictly follow the laws.
1. Recruitment - Since you have worked in a consultancy, recruitment should not be a tough job for you. Find out the vacancies, either new or for replacements, sit with their reporting heads, work on JDs, and then find suitable candidates. Always remember to send a resource requisition to the reporting heads to understand what they actually want.
2. Incentives - For incentives, you have to work with the department heads to determine the basis for distributing incentives. Always try to distribute incentives based on performance. To do this, you need to prepare Key Result Areas (KRA) first so that you can measure their performance and provide incentives accordingly.
3. Attendance - In any manufacturing unit, the muster roll is used. This is mandatory for any manufacturing firm. Ensure to maintain the muster roll for attendance, making it easier for you to track.
4. Leave - In the muster roll, after the dates, there are 5 columns left: CL, EL, LWP, Total working days, Total present. Here, you can track and manage leave effectively.

It usually happens to new employees that either the employees are much older and also have more experience. So try to handle all the employees accordingly. There is no specific mantra to handle all the employees in the same way; for everyone, the style changes. So for this, try to increase your floor interaction. Talk to them individually. You will come to know their soft corners and then start tackling them.

It is most common in companies in the initial stage. First, be clear about your roles and responsibilities. Get a clear picture of your protocol. If necessary, ask your reporting person to arrange a meeting for everyone and let them know about your importance in the company.

So it's a great opportunity to perform and prove your talent. First of all, study the HR system well in your organization. Understand the requirements and address things one by one. If you think you are unable to handle everything by yourself, you must outsource the services of consultants. For recruitment, training, and systematization works, they will guide you better.
