Leave of absence from work is a concession granted to paid employees by the employers ever since the practice of engagement of labor for hire or reward came into vogue. Initially, it might have worked on the principle of no work - no wages. However, with the gradual emergence of employment relationships becoming formal and the incorporation of welfare measures into working conditions, leave provisions came to be statutory depending upon the nature of work as well as the type of industrial or other establishment, as briefly stated by the above learned member.

If the poster is desirous of motivating his employees more by means of leave, his organization may adopt a liberal leave policy with reference to matters like leave sanction, sandwiching of different kinds of leave, encashment of unavailed leave, etc. Above all, higher scales of leave can also be considered without detriment to the work of the industrial establishment.
