Hi

Training is an effective way to enhance the skill sets and competencies of an employee. The advantage with training is that it is normally focused and concentrated inputs are given to the trainees by an experienced facilitator and so the learning is quicker and techniques more sound.

Identifying training needs correctly is one major pre condition to effective training. This can be done by studying the annual appraisal reports of individuals, personal interview with employees, through a structured questionnaire that is filled in by the trainees and their superiors etc. Tabulating the results will give a fair idea of the training needs.

Ensuring the success of training is the toughest part of training. Some indicators of positive results of training are by studying the post training performance of participants. A drop in rate of mistakes, increased quality output, enhanced savings, positive feedback from superiors and peers etc. are strong signs of the effectiveness of the training.

Trust the reply motivates you to give use training extensively.

Training is the best method for developing the skills but then again you need to determine which type of training the employee requires training can be segregated in the following manner

Academic Training,

Job related training

On job Training

You also need to consider which type of skill the employee requires to develop which are also listed below

Technical Skills

Soft Skills

Knowledge based

All of the above requirement can be identified in 2 ways

• Performance appraisal System

• Training Needs analysis

During the performance appraisal cycle supervisors can identify their employees area of weakness and determine are they soft or technical or Knowledge based which can also depend on the method of evaluating the performance and the period in which it is done.

On the other hand the organisation can decide to undertake a training needs analysis where it develops questionnaires and distribute it to department heads to fill in, usually this method you acquire a more detailed information on the employees training requirement.

Its up to your own desecration as an HR professional and up to the departmental manager to decide the area in which training required and the best method for it The only way you can evaluate employees training effectiveness is by evaluating their performance and developing a questionnaire to find out how much of the knowledge the employee has applied in his job
