Dear all,

I have been working in the field of sales for 3 years and want to shift my complete career to SAP HR. I have completed an MBA in Marketing and HR. Please let me know if my decision is correct and provide your suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi Sushruth,

My suggestion would always be to go according to your will, not according to skill. If you have skill but not the will, then there is no use in continuing the same.

All the best!

Dear Sushruth,

I believe you have invested three years in sales, maybe for whatever reasons, but that is the experience that you have as of now. Switching a job or an industry is never a difficult thing, but definitely, as said, you should be willing to go ahead with the same with full passion and dedication. As sales is a dynamic job, HR MIS, on the contrary, would be more of a monotonous job. If you are driven by passion and not a higher pay packet, then certainly you can try the option out. All the best for your career.

Hello Mr. Kumar,

As you have mentioned in your post that you want to switch your sales career into HR, the question that comes to my mind is, why? Since you have 3 years of experience in sales, which counts a lot in all aspects, whether it pertains to salary or career growth.

As you also have a degree in HR, starting a career in HR would only consider you as a fresher with offers at low wages and no experience. Then, why should one switch? I do understand that sales is a highly challenging job profile, and work pressures exist, but if you are not satisfied with your current company, you do have the option to switch to another company in the same profile with higher salary packages and positions, as you have experience and are not a fresher.

Think about it!

Regards,
Shubha

Hi Shubha Lakshmi,

Thank you for your suggestion. Firstly, my three years of work experience doesn't count at all because I have changed companies frequently, lacking consistency. As the saying goes, 'A rolling stone gathers no moss.' Furthermore, I have an interest in HR and am not primarily concerned about the salary; I believe it will come eventually as I gain more experience in HR.

Hi Deepak,

Good question. I have answers for them. First and foremost, I do have an interest in HR jobs. Secondly, my communication skills are very good. Apart from this, having experience in hardcore sales, I can say that sales is a very tedious job. It involves a lot of travel, which has led to many critical health issues for me. I have been suffering from sinusitis (related to the ear, nose, throat), and whenever I travel extensively, I face problems due to this. Therefore, I want to become more health-conscious.

If you have any further questions or suggestions, you are welcome, Deepak. Thank you.

Hi, for SAP HR certification from an approved institute, you should have 3 years of domain experience, i.e., HR experience first. So please check if any approved institute relaxes the norm; otherwise, gain experience in HR first.
