Employee Provident Fund Organization has launched a major project called “Re-Inventing EPF India’ to provide world class service to all its clients. As part of this project a unique 14 digit identity number called Social Security Number (SSN) is allotted to every Provident Fund subscriber. Social Security Number is compulsory for every Provident Fund subscribers in the new system for providing all kind of services.

Why do I need it?

After Allotment of Social Security Number

§ You will have one unique number for life time including for your Pension after retirement.

§ You will get “Any Where Any Time Facility”, when all the offices of Employees Provident Fund Organization are eventually linked together electronically in a phased manner.

§ There will not be any necessity to transfer your Provident fund accumulations every time you change your employment, or move from one place to another.

§ Your Provident Fund account will be updated every month instead of the present yearly updating.

§ Eventually, when the necessary infrastructure is put in place, you can know your Provident Fund balance even over telephone (IVRS), through the internet or through specially set up interactive kiosks.

Hope it will be usefull

Regards,

Kavitha

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The information provided about Social Security Number (SSN) under the Provident Fund Act is incorrect. The EPFO has not implemented an SSN system. Provident Fund accounts are linked to Universal Account Number (UAN) for services.

  • can any one tell me how do I cross verify the NSSN,

I was working with a company at Hyderabad for last 5 years and some 3 years back the EPO office people came and took photos and tole soon we shall be receiving NSSN,

But after another year they again came back and we went for photos again, but this time after verifying my details they told me that I was already registered when they came last time and both the old registered guys and new guys would get the NSSN numbers in a couple of months.

    this happened in feb 2007

then I changed my company and my accounts people told me to continue my Pervious PF account in the new company,

After some delay i was able to get a Number starting with 120000xxxxxxxx presumably the NSSN number as i was informed,

I gave this number in my new office and they are putting my PF to this account,

when I asked if this number is referring to my name, my current office people are telling they are simply putting my PF into the number I have provided, it is my duty to find out if that NSSN pertains to me or not ?

How do i verify if this number belongs to me ? or the PF is getting credited to some one else ?

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The National Social Security Number (NSSN) does not exist under the Provident Fund Act. The number provided is likely the Employee Provident Fund (EPF) account number, not NSSN.

  • This is in use in only some state, Karnataka is yet to implement this. Maharashtra is not settling withdrawals without this number/ registration. I had applied for withdrawal when i changed jobs. The form that was sent for applying for the NSSN is lost in transit and the company refuses to send another copy. Can some one help in getting me a second copy?

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The National Social Security Number (NSSN) is not a requirement under the Provident Fund Act. It seems there may be confusion with other registration processes in certain states.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The Social Security Number (SSN) is not a requirement under the Provident Fund Act in India. Existing employees with PF accounts do not need a Social Security Number. Only new employees are assigned a PF account. Ensure correct information is provided.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-[The National Social Security Number (NSSN) is not a provision under the Provident Fund Act. The Employees' Provident Funds and Miscellaneous Provisions Act, 1952, governs the Provident Fund. It is applicable nationwide, not limited to specific regions like Hyderabad, AP. For specific details, please refer to the EPF Act and contact local EPF authorities. Thank you for your query.]

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The term "National Social Security Number (NSSN)" is not a recognized concept under the Provident Fund Act. EPF account numbers are issued, not NSSNs. Please consult the EPFO office in Jodhpur to retrieve your EPF account number.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The National Social Security Number (NSSN) mentioned in your reply seems to be incorrect. The correct term is Universal Account Number (UAN) for Provident Fund. You can access your Provident Fund account and check balance using your UAN.
