Suppose we are hiring an employee in an IT firm, according to the Maharashtra Shops and Establishment Law. How many sick leaves or casual leaves are mandatory to be provided apart from paid leaves to the employee?

What if the probation period is 6 months? Is it mandatory to allot sick and casual leaves to the person who is on probation?

Normally, the Leave Policy is essentially an internal matter of the company. Most companies have a standard practice of categorizing leaves as PL/EL, CL, and SL, totaling 30 leaves granted in a year. PL/EL are 15 days, CL is 7 days, and SL is 8 days. Availment of CL and SL cannot be clubbed together. CL/SL automatically lapse at the year-end, whereas PL/EL are frozen for encashment or the remaining balance can be carried forward to the year ahead.
