Hi All, I am working with hospitality industry since 9 and from last five years as secretary to GM. I have completed my PGDBA in HR ( 2014-16) and I have gone through HR training in our HR department. While applying for in or outside my company, no one is ready to hire a fresher as everyone would like to have experience person. If they agree to hire than the offer is half of the salary which I am getting. I have excellent administrative skills, grievances handling, ms office etc. There is only one drawback; I dont have a practical hand on the payroll.
Would be an ideal for me to change into HR field? Or Should I continue in admin?
How should I improve my practical payroll knowledge?

Dear Arati,
Rather than suggesting what is good or bad, I would like to cite some examples that I follow for my team members. All my team members are placed in different roles within the HR department for a specific period. Very recently, one of my staff was asked to represent one of our contractors' case of EPF before RPFC. Although I accompanied the staff as the head, I was pleading the case until the end result. I told the RPFC, "I am the boss, but he is the Guru." The team member was in that role for one year and it was their last day before moving on to another task.
It is always advisable to work on the core subject as per your qualifications. Why do doubts arise when you get the chance to work on your core subject?
Thank you.

The administration is treated as everybody's cup of tea; however, HR is considered a specialized job. Therefore, transitioning to HR would be a form of job enrichment. Since you have an interest in payroll management, when considering a career in HR, you may want to express your preference for this type of work. It's important to note that payroll is just one aspect of HR. To fully immerse yourself in the field, you should also familiarize yourself with more complex HR management tasks such as developing compensation policies, talent management, industrial relations, compliance management, and so on.
