Hi, I have almost 2 years of experience in Recruitment in consultancy, and it is becoming very difficult for me to transition to an IT Company as a Recruitment Executive. I am looking to shift to a Generalist role or explore other areas in HR such as HR shared services representative. What topics should I focus on to gain the necessary knowledge and skills to make this career transition successfully and secure a job in an IT Company?

Hi,

Do IT companies have any requirements based on their job specifications posted in their ads? If yes, I believe you may work on those requirements. If I am going to express my preferences, I am mostly focused on the improvement projects or policies that he/she was able to establish in a company – this reflects true leadership or potential for future leadership. I need to assess the leadership and management style. I want to observe how he/she creates teamwork. I would like to understand how he/she handles complaints, conducts proper investigations regarding such complaints, analyzes reports, and manages people in departments. Can he/she conduct training or seminars? Do you have general knowledge regarding the salaries of IT executives in the market or in other positions? Primarily, I would like to see strength of character, which I commonly refer to as grit. Other interviewers may have different preferences. I am just sharing my preferences. I hope this information is helpful! Good luck!

Regards, Shallohal

As you already have experience in recruitment, it would be beneficial for you to expand your knowledge in Talent Acquisition, Employee Relationships, Engagement Activities, Training & Development, etc. This will add more value to your skills and enhance the scope for becoming a generalist.

Hi, I have completed my BTech and MBA in HR (2015 September pass out). After that, I joined a consultancy firm as an APAC Recruiter and worked for only 6 months (February-August 2016) due to some problems that led me to discontinue. Later, I was looking for a job as an HR generalist, involving all aspects of the HR field. However, I met with an accident, which made it challenging to secure a job for a year. Now, I am eager to restart my career in the field of MBA.

I am currently receiving offers for recruitment positions only, but I am seeking a comprehensive HR role. Should I pursue additional courses to enhance my career prospects? Your guidance and advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thank you; I look forward to hearing from you.
