Hi All, I am working with Chemical industry from last 2 years as Executive Assistant to Director (Technical) Prior to this i have 2.5 yrs of experience in HR (Liasoning) not in Core HR . I have completed my MBA in HR ( 2011-13). I would like to work in Core HR like: Recruitment & Selection, Training & Development , Organization Development, Payroll, Policy Recommendation,Salary and Benefits, Employee Relations. I have resigned with my current company just because i m getting frustrated with my profile. While applying for HR position no one is ready to hire a fresher as everyone would like to have experience person for HR. If they agree to hire than they offer me the half of the salary which I am getting right now. I have excellent administrative skills, ms office etc. There is only one drawback; I don’t have a practical knowledge of HR

Would be an ideal for me to change into HR field? Or Should I continue in admin or as Ex. Asst. in other company?

How should I improve my practical payroll knowledge?

Dear Manan,

There is no need to go back to the field of EA since you have decided to leave that field for better growth and pursue your interest in HR. However, you will have to start fresh in HR as you currently lack the experience required. You will need to accept a lower salary for the first year. Consider this year as your training period and focus on gaining practical knowledge by working in a company. Practical experience is more valuable than theoretical knowledge from books or institutes. With the skills and degree you possess, I am confident that you will eventually achieve the salary and position you deserve. Initially, though, you will have to compromise on the salary aspect.

At the outset, I really apologize for the late reply. Well, thank you so much for your kind advice on the above subject. Indeed, there is a lot I need to learn by gaining practical knowledge while working in a company. I really appreciate your guidance!

There is one more thing I would like to ask you. My current company, where I am going to resign next month, will provide me with an experience letter mentioning my position as an EA (Ex. Asst to Director). Will it be good for my future career?

Dear Manan,

An experience letter as an EA to the director may not be extremely beneficial in HR, but it is essential to have it as proof for your future employer since you will mention it on your resume. However, this experience will be valuable if you are pursuing a position in HR and Admin. In that scenario, the experience letter will be an added advantage for you.

Manish
