If one employee already has an IP No. under Maharashtra code and for the past 6 months, ESI amount has been deposited in his account. Now, he has come to work in West Bengal, and a new company has created another new IP against his name, which means for the same employee under the West Bengal Code. Currently, he is not receiving benefits as the ESIC amount has only been deposited for 2 months against his new number. However, the employee wishes to avail benefits against his new IP No. Therefore, we need to transfer the funds from the previous code to the new code to ensure he receives the benefits immediately, considering his previous company has already paid the ESIC amount for 6 months. This entails transferring funds from the previous IP to the new IP for the same employee. Kindly advise on the necessary procedure.

Please assist with resolving this issue promptly.

Dear Monjita,

There was no need to open another IP for this employee. Actually, the ESIC portal does not allow entries for duplication. The employee can continue to use the old IP number only.

While creating the employee number @ WB (with a new employer), the employee should have provided the IP number (MAH) and used this number to map it under your company's ESIC payments. That could have solved the problem.

Dear Raghvendra,

I agree with you. I also faced the same problem in my previous company. The employer deducted ESI contributions from my salary for two years. When I joined my present company, I submitted my ESIC IP No. to the HR department. However, they did not continue with the last ESIC IP No. Instead, they generated a new ESIC IP No. I don't know how this was possible. Currently, my ESIC contributions are being deposited every month under the new IP No. What is the solution to transfer my previous ESIC contributions to my present account? Please provide me with suggestions.

Thank you.

I agree with you, but now ask present employer to send a request to ESIC for transfer of contribution in old IP a/c,.

Since ESIC does not encourage duplication, the new ESIC account needs to be canceled. Visit your ESIC Office and submit an application stating the issue and asking them to transfer the amount from the new account to the old account. Also, download the details of the deposits made to the new account and submit the same in hard copy with the application.

In the company's ESIC login portal, update the old account number immediately and start depositing in the old account number. Also, always ensure if new joiners have any old ESIC Number in the past, as mostly they do have.

Dear all,

It is possible in this case for the present employer to send a request letter to the ESIC local office for the transfer of contributions from the new IP account to the old IP account. Please also attach the employee's application, a copy of both the TIC of the IP numbers, or if the employee has an ESIC smart card, then please attach a copy of the smart card as well.

Thank you.

Dear All,

I agree with all your suggestions. These were relevant three years ago, but nowadays, ESI has implemented many easier ways and procedures. For example, in the case mentioned above, if the employee or the concerned employer contacts the branch office, they are immediately asked why they haven't taken the Smart card.

According to ESI procedures, any employee must fill out FORM - 1 within 90 days to receive the Smart card. This allows them to work with any employer in India while retaining the same IP number. Please contact the branch office with your previous IP number (and also ensure your previous employer has updated your status as no longer with the organization).

As regards,

If one employee has two IP numbers under the same code, and the employee has already been issued a smart card but ESI contributions have been deposited under another IP number, and now he has gone to the dispensary for treatment, the officers informed him that his smart card has been closed. The employer, however, has stated that contributions are being deposited under the other IP number. How can all the ESI contributions be transferred to my smart card?

Please solve my problem immediately.

Nitesh
