Dear Priyanka,
Usually payroll is not the first choice of any HR Professional. What made you choose it as a major function of your job?
You're from Bangalore, which means from Karnatake, every state has various labour laws, first get some information on the minimum wages of your state of all three categories, un-skilled, semi-skilled and skilled labour.
Learn about the components (break-ups) of salary i.e. what constitutes a salary. what are allowances etc.
Most of the Organisations are running Payroll operations on various ERP modules say SAP, PeopleSoft etc. thus you may be one of the lucky ones to have training on SAP and PeopleSoft, these trainings are highly demanded today and very expensive too.
warm regards,

Thank you for the response
I really have no clue as to what to take up and prepare for my placements. i did my training in recruitment at one of the best consultancy and got a lot of exposure there.
My friends have told me that the first profile for an HR fresher is recruitment. Is this true? I really am tensed and dont know what to do? The placements in my college are starting very soon and so would like some guidance.. plzz help.
