Hi
The difference is really that the relieving letter only states formally that you have been relieved. I use it in my company to make sure that a new employee has resigned from his previous company and he is not trying to do two jobs at the same time (or he could just have taken a holiday to try out another company)
The experience letter is a letter that states what kind of experience you have, wether the company have been happy about you etc.
Of cause there can be differences from company to company - country to country but these I would say are the differences (the big picture)
Kind regards,

Reliving letter has a legal application. In reliving letter it is mentioned that the cncerned employee has handed over the charge of the documents, drawings, files, keys and all other belongings which he/she has in possesion during the tenure of his service.Reliving letter moniterise that the employee has handed over the charge whereas Experience certificate moniterise the contents such as Date of Joining,Date of Resignition,Date of Reliving,Designition at the time of joining & at the time of reliving & the conduct.

Relieving letter suggests that you have handed over all the documents and items of the organization. There is nothing that you owe to the organization. It talks about detachment between employer and employee. It also suggests that the employer or employee have agreed to scrap their relation.
On the other hand experience letter talks about duration of your stay in the company and your last designation.
These days, when you move from one company to another they ask for Relieving Letter or Resignation Acceptance Letter to be ensured that you have actually left the organization. In good olden days…people use to take leave from their current employer…go and work with prospective employer…learn about the culture and environment and then suddenly disappear.
So, asking for relieving letter is just to trash such practice in the corporate world.
I hope this will help.
