Hi,
I have got offer from Cognizant. I have a query regarding the background verification process.
For my first job, I worked for a very small company as a trainee and later got better post. I worked there for more than 2 years. I got release letter from them clearly mentioning my joining date and release date. But I do not got any offer/appointment letter.
Will that create any problem in the Cognizant background verification?

Dear Ashok,
You have mentioned that you did not get appointment letter
from the small company that you worked for.
Did you join on a verbal order?
Do you have a copy of your joining report?
Are you having salary slips?
You have mentioned that from a trainee you became permanent and got a better post.
How did this happen? Was any letter served to you and do you have that copy?
Keep the release letter as a proof along with whatever of the above documents that you have.
If you have not already disclosed all these details to Cognizant, then
do it when you send your acceptance letter.
According to me there should not be any problem.

Dear Mr. Raghunathan,
Thanks for your reply.
Yes everything was on verbal discussion. I did not have salary slips of that company. Salary was paid through cheques. Thankfully the company is still operational I mean there is proof that it's not a fake experience. Should I ask them to give me any document which would further prove that I was working there? What kind of document would that be I ask for?
Thanks for your suggestions.

@ Ashok.Gos,

Congratulation for Getting selected in Cognizant.....!!!!!

Generally, companies required following documents for Background Check Process.

1) Last - Appointment Letter / Salary Revision letter / Appraisal OR Promotion Letter (Which indicates your current package)

2) Salary Slip (In General case - Last Three month)

3) Salary Account (Bank account) Statement (In General case - Last Three month)

4) Experience & Relieving Letter.

5) Resignation Acceptance (In few Case).

Yes, I would suggest go to your previous employer & request them to provide the documents. If a employer is genuine then they will give your all required documents.

In other case (if your ex-employer not provides you required documents), you may talk to Cognizant HR that you only have Reveling letter which indicates your joining & relieving date very clear. You can also show your Bank account statement which shows regular deposit of salary cheques.

I hope this will resolve your all queries. Do write to us for more details.

Dear Mr Ashok,
You have received some excellent inputs from Mr Maulik Dave,
reinforcing the earlier observations posted by me.
Now that you have all the details that you should seek from your past employer,
this is the time to act in right earnest without any delay.

Request your last employer to supply you:
1. Appointment Letter: Shops and Commercial Establishment Act of states (that would cover your last establishment too) lays down to issue appointment letter...
2. Salary Slips: Payment of Wages Act:13A, Min.Wages Central Rules :26(3,4) lays down to supply salary/wages slip at least a day before disbursement of Wages and should be signed by both employer/employees...
3. Form 16: has to be issued by employer (deductor) else can be penalized thru ITO-TDS where you file ITR or CIT-TDS where employer files ITR....
Then employer has to keep and submit various forms prescribed in Shops and Commercial Establishment Rules...
4. FnF statement: should be issued to employees for verification and acceptance...
5. Salary Certificate
6. Acknowledged copy of resignation and acceptance.....

Hi @Ddoaba,
I have the above mentioned documents from my last 5 previous employers except one: my 1st employer with whom I was involved around 8-10 years ago. My concern was about that only.
Thanks everyone for quickly responding to my issue at the time when I needed most. I really appreciate your advices.

Dear Ashok Gos,
When you refer '8 to 10 years' it is very long ago.
Keep whatever details you have for reference.
One thing for sure is your Cognizant offer must be for the recent experiences: perhaps in the last five years when you would have handled the jobs at relatively higher position.
Do not worry and be relaxed. Good luck.
