This is not a new thing but a normal one which is ongoing in IT industry. Not only in your company and in your area this exists almost throught india.
If you are a HR professional while recruiting the candidates after finishing your interview questions ask them what are the things that is mentioned in his/her resume is true and false thing and also say to the candidate that what ever be the thing accept now so that he/she would be selected otherwise tell them that if verfied that they won't get the job anywhere.
Definitely you will get true/fake things mentioned in the resume would come from them this is the one which is followed in one of the reputed IT related company and a successful one.
Try it and say.

This happened around 1 year back. My friend interviewed a candidate for driver vacancy who said he is from one of the reputed company. She asked for reference in the same company. he said he was driving car for MDs wife and my friend can contact their home no. or mobile number of MDs wife. He gave her both numbers.
She was trying to reach this home number and could not able to reach. Hence she dialed mobile number and spoke to a person who claimed as brother of MDs wife and gave very good feedback. Mean time she also checked Telephone directory for the land line number and this number is registered with the same company. She called that company to know about his salary details and they told that for MDs wife driver MD is personally paying salary.
After several days she came to know through other drivers that he was working for travel agency and not with the company / MD res. she strongly refused to believe. Finally she want to put a stop for this and again tried for the MD res. and his wife picked the call and said no one in the name has worked as driver for her.
Actually happened : one of his friend is working as watchman/driver /.. in md house / nei. house. hence he came to know for the next 20 days they are not going to be in India and been to US trip. :oops:
They used this as advantage and used their landline number and x has claimed as MDs brother-in-law and helped this boy to get job. She could not able to reach this mobile number.
Now the sad part is my friend's boss is telling that she has not done proper reference check. :cry:
Please be careful while doing reference check.
