Hello all,
I am Vijay from Chennai with 6 + years expr in automotive. Recently i took a job change to an OEM with a huge hike but i regret for that decision. In my previous firm i was for 2.5 years in a settled and comfortable position . i informed due to personal reasons i am resigning & while leaving i was in good terms with the old manager and the management. I made it clear that i was not leaving for money or position. Now i kind of feel the decision i made was totally wrong as i am unhappy day to day. Also it feels i don't belong here. Should i ask my previous employer to take me back ? ( as personally and officially myself and my manager have a great rapport) will they recruit me with same pay grade???? will i be looking like a sheep in a pact of wolfs if they recruit me back???
Money or happiness ???

Dear Vijay,
This is a matter totally depends on your personal preferences. My opinion is one way of looking at it rather than the ideal & right one. I couldn't guess why do you feel 'this is not a place for you". Having said that you would better know why or what made you to think in this manner. Unless I know what are the reasons driving you to come to this state of mind it may not be appropriate to suggest any solution. However, you said it, while quitting you gave them an impression that you are not leaving for hefty jump but for personal reasons and the rapport with your line Manager was cordial. Thus you did belied, their confidence in you took a beating. And now you have to weigh the consequences of going back - they are- i) rebuilding the credentials among the erstwhile employers ii) possible sudden drop in your package, can't rule out you are fixed in the fresher's grade iii) sacrificing the 'continuous service' which would impact your gratuity, pension, leave etc. iv) in case, what if they won't take you again, no guarantee. I can't rule out the positivity at the same breadth, might be you are welcomed whole heartedly, if they need you at any cost. May be you are suggested a better package than before. Who knows?
Coming back to the present position. Did you consider reconciling to the situation and coming out trumps over coming all odds?! why not try to sail over all obstacles, try to upturn unpleasant things into strengths & promises. Did you made self appraisal, what made you to feel like this here? any thing wanting in you? if yes, can't you make good?
Need a soul search, I feel. Decision is yours, take a conscious decision. All the best for a bright future friend.

Hi,
I have different thought here, going back to previous employer is not good idea, I believe you are feeling go back, because you were comfortable with job and responsibilities, and with other things as well. But accepting counter offers are not good. Each company, each job has different significance, you should rethink, why you join this company? what challenges you are facing. I would suggest accept the new job with full zeal, and try to put more efforts to get involved, move ahead, past is past, accept new job challenges and learn from it. After all things if you not get your mental peace and monitory benefit you can take your decision to go back to last employers or search another job option.
Thanks
