I have worked in two companies and have joined a new company. During the background check, will they just call the previous company for verification, or will they contact all the companies for employment verification? In any case, I have submitted both companies' relieving letters.

Hi, It depends on the Employer. But mostly verification process will be carried out with the last employer through email.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user reply is partially correct. In most cases, verification is done with the last employer, but it can vary. Some employers may contact multiple past employers. Reference: Employment Verification Laws & Best Practices book.

(Fact Check Failed/Partial)-The user's reply is partially correct. Employers may verify previous employment, but they are not limited to just the most recent company. They can contact all listed employers for verification.

  • Some companies do background verification (BGV) themselves, while many employ BGV agencies to conduct the verification. The verification is typically done with the immediate previous company. However, if there is a break in service between two past employments and you do not have proper or convincing justifications for the break in service, then the BGV can extend to previous employments as well.
